We all have an "iT" to get over - some challenge in life that seems difficult, if not impossible, to overcome. These may be health problems, traumatic experiences in our pasts, or stressful situations in our finances or careers. Sometimes the "iT" stems from broken relationships or negative judgments we've encountered during our journey.

Let me begin by saying that I have read plenty of these kinds of "self-help" Christian motivational books (and non-Christian, too), and I generally give them a 5-star rating without batting an eye. They are typically well-written and full fairly mediocre but inspirational information. In most cases, I will never look at these books again because after all, who has the time?
This 5-star rating is on a much higher level. I was completely impressed with the concise writing and common sense way in which Mary Buchan wrote this book. It is absolute genius, and I even shared some of the information with my mom. I just turned 40, and so I felt I could comprehend much of what was being stated in the book. She writes from a Christian perspective, but she never sounds preachy. She was candid in what she wrote, and this made the book even more relevant to me. She is also a musician (so am I), so could this book have been any better? I have already decided to go back through the book and work through some of the projects she has at the end of each chapter. I do recommend not reading this in one sitting (I know, I did, but do as I say, not as I do), and change can occur if you actively participate in the reading of this book. Do a little at a time, and immerse yourself in her ideas. They are real, and results are possible.
Lately, it seems that God is speaking through books just like this. At the age of 40, things do begin to change, but the beauty is that we still have time to make positive changes. I am so appreciative of this book, and I highly recommend it to women of any age!
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
I was interested in this book as soon as I heard about it.. It's not a long book. I tried to just take it a chapter at a time and try to absorb it. Another thing I liked about the book is it's not a preachy book. It's just a helpful book about trying to get over all the stuff that is holding yo back. In order to get over things, you have to be willing to change. You have to be willing to accept and move on. If you are going to keep all the bad things deep in the dark crevices of your brain, you will never move on with your life. You have to take those bad things and go over them. Think about why you are holding on to them. Is it worth putting your life in limbo to keep them in your brain and letting them fester? They are like a blister, it festers and festers until it breaks and then it heals. That is what will allow you to heal. Letting that blister break. Getting rid of the hurt and the bad things you have been holding on to. I believe anyone that sincerely wants to rid themselves of those bad things and finally say, "OVER IT" should read this book. If you are wanting that change, this book may help you. The author has written of her own experiences which shows everyone has something they want to change or get over. Don't believe for a minute that you are beyond help because you're not. You just have to put the effort and challenge yourself to reach whatever goal you have. It won't be easy but it can be done.Everyone has problems, issues and struggles in their lives. Holding on to them doesn't solve anything.
I was given a complimentary copy of OVER IT from the author, Mary Buchan for my view of the book. No other compensation took place.
Over It is an extensive look at how we treat ourselves everyday and does a fabulous job of explaining how to deal with certain issues in an easy, very understandable way.
So... I'm going to have to read this book twice, if not more. I can already see it. Firstly I am read it the first time through to get everything in my head, but to be honest I didn't journal. I do, however, have a nice new journal that is just for this book!
One thing I really loved about this is the concise, short but sweet information. Each chapter consists of one or two pages maybe with some anecdotes thrown in, but they are all really easy to understand and most are easy to relate to. I can see applying these tidbits of information to my life and was already expressing my appreciation to the hubster before I was even on page 25!
With each of these short chapters are the journalling portions. When I started reading I debated on whether or not I really wanted to journal but with just a few chapters in I knew the journalling would really help tell me about myself. And the questions are guidelines but they are very precise and I can see how they would be useful to growth.
Although it is 280 pages I read the chapters in chunks and those 280 flew by. I could see adding in the journal and it taking me two months or just thumbing through to the things that I want to reiterate.
In short: The advice is fantastic and can be applied to everyone. The chapters are short and easy to read! I definitely recommend this to everyone!
As a women I find health and well-being issues of vital importance. Because health involves the interrelated aspects of physical, mental, and emotional areas I found this resource helpful, covering nearly 50 aspects in these categories. In this book, Ms. Buchan shows us how to work through the issues in our life that are causing problems. Simple steps we can take to reduce our own stress, lose weight or just get over traumatic situations. You may not realize it, but you carry baggage from your childhood forward. Issues we were certain we dealt with years ago. Parts of our own personalities can even hinder our happiness. Ms. Buchan teaches us coping skills and journaling. We need to get rid of the negative stuff we bury deep inside.
I found this book very enlightening. I did have to admit to myself I still carry some demons from my childhood. I need to deal with them, but no one ever gave me the skills to do that. I now have a better understanding for getting rid of these demons. I thank Ms. Buchan for the help she gave me. You'll find this book useful and engaging. I recommend this one to everyone. Not just those who know they have demons, but to others who just want to find a better way to work through daily stress. This book should be required reading for everyone over age 13.
I didn't find any issues with this one.
I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it helped me in a wonderful way. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
I didn't know who Mary was when I first saw her book. Now after reading, I feel like if we met, we would instantly be friends.
She is well-read, a fact evident in the references, passages and inspirational quotes she shares from others who have contributed to building the foundation of self-awareness. Then she takes it one step further. Throughout the book, she shares her failures as well as victories in stories that are inspirational and relatable, confirming the connectedness between us all. The concise chapters help add balance to the busiest of schedules and introspective questions help the reader embrace her message.
If you’re looking for pocket-sized, easy-to-read, concise affirmation that it’s time to get "Over It," Mary’s writing will definitely fill that bill.
Mary Buchan gives a refreshing and grace-filled perspective on navigating life's ups and downs. She offers empathy and encouragement to readers as she courageously shares her life experiences. This is a definite must-read for the overburdened and performance-driven!
