Dad always said, ‘Bad experiences make life interesting’. I’m tired of an interesting life. I’d like a dull one from now on, please.
The glitz and glam of showbiz isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. As a 26-year-old actor living in London, Mel would know.
After years of wasting time at fruitless auditions, dealing with constant rejection and batting off back-handed compliments, Mel’s starting to reach the end of her tether with it all. That’s until she lands a semi-substantial role in a hit movie alongside superstar heartthrob, Jack Hart.
Jack is super confident, super handsome and, on face value, super arrogant — everything Mel’s not. But when Mel gets the opportunity to break industry protocol and get to know the person behind the pretty face, she soon realises that even the most famous and successful actors have their problems.
Told in a series of diary entries in which Mel muses on everything from booty calls and all-butter croissants to grief and family bonds, Melodramatic is a candid look at the mess of wires behind those big flashing lights of fame — wonderfully witty, refreshingly honest and, ultimately, hilarious.
This hardback copy also contains a foreword by CBBC and Strictly Come Dancing star Rhys Stephenson. As well as the first chapter of Megan Parkinson's follow-up novel, Waiting for Monday.

MY THOUGHTS: This book was amazing from the very beginning I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the rest of the series to come out. I loved all the characters except i'm unsure on Jack I dont know how I feel about him but all the other characters I loved. I also loved the storyline and the way this book is written i've never read a book in this style and I loved it. Near the end of this book it brought a tear to my eye as I know it's based on the authors real life. I have rated this book 5 stars fantastic read and 100% recommend.
I started following megan on tiktok because her croissant monologues make my day whole. Makes me miss my home in England. The minute I found out she was writing a book I knew I had to have it. Once it's was finally in my grasp took longer for me to find some time to read and now that ita over I can finally say I am absolutely saddened it is. I love this book, the banter, the awkward character who I very much relate to. This book is so relatable I didn't want it to end and I do hope there is a sequel I need one!!! I do hear there is a prequel so I am definitely going to have to get my hands on it. I really enjoyed this book it felt like a taste of home mixed with a taste of myself on pages. Absolutely stunning novel.
"Melodramatic" by Megan Parkinson is an emotional rollercoaster that's hard to put down! Written in a compelling diary style, this novel gives readers an intimate glimpse into Melissa Bishop's inner world. Parkinson's keen insight into human emotions and relationships shines through every page, making the story both relatable and deeply moving. For anyone who has ever dreamed of pursuing an acting career, this book vividly captures the highs and lows, from the thrill of auditions and the sting of rejection to the joy of landing a role and the grind of rehearsals. Mel's journey of the life of a budding actor is painted with authenticity, making each entry feel like a personal conversation.
A lovely heartfelt story of love and heartbreak of the romantic and non romantic kind. I laughed and cried during this book and I don’t do either easily with literature. Great debut hope Megan writes more
Could not put this book down! The fast pace twists and turns keep you hooked and as someone who also grieves their mum, it’s so refreshing reading someone else experiencing the mix of emotions that come along with it. 10/10!
Having followed Megan on social media during the process of writing the book I was really looking forward to reading it and wasn’t disappointed! Absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the next book!
