All werewolf packs need a sexual outlet. For south Florida’s Red Wolf pack, the sexy, liberated and infertile werewolf Lorena is it. Not your average Were, Lorena satisfies the males like no other wolf can. But as much as she enjoys her role as pack mistress, she begins to long for something she’s never had. A mate she can call her own…
Evelyn Lafont. Evelyn is a full-time writer living in Florida with her perfect orange kitties and totally alpha hubby who saves her from squirrels, stray dogs, glue and herself.
Her debut paranormal romance series, The Vampire Relationship Guide, is a four-novella romp that takes a satirical look at what could happen if a clueless human chick really dated a vampire. It’s also got some good sex and romance shoved up in it, making it a lovely four-course meal that won’t leave you feeling bloated after consumption.
Her newest series, Pack Mistress (Quick ‘n’ Dirty Erotic Paranormal Romance) follows the adventures of red wolf Pack Mistress Lorena as she satisfies the males of her south Florida pack while trying to find herself. It’s more serious than VRG, and more erotic. The novel is being released in serial format, with new 30-35 page installments every other month in 2012.
You can also read Evelyn’s essays and ramblings weekly on her blog or by visiting VampLure, the satirical monthly magazine inspired by The Vampire Relationship Guide series. You can also find some of the guest posts she’s written on The Bitch Blog, Book Love Blog, and The Weblog of Zoe Winters.
I will not continue reading this series. I wanted to know how she became the Pack Mistress and what part R.W. would play. Since I have those answers, I don't care to read more of the same. The sex was repetitive (that is bad when you are reading erotica) and I didn't care for the timing of some of the scenes, so I ended up skipping through a majority of the book.
It was definitely a book that should be read all at once. I could not imagine reading this in parts. The story was good and the twists along the way made it pull you through the pages.
What made this a three star for me were the editing issues. There were several sentences that never came together, despite my multiple attempts to re-read them. Example: "I swear to everything holy, if I have to beat you in the head with the television in order to get you to concuss (yes -exactly how it is written), I will. Because I am going alone." Or, like this one, "The coarse hair of his groin stroked my cheeks as my tongue messaged his balls and taint." Both equally perplexing in my already limited vocabulary. There were also some uncommon used words that had me bringing out old faithful, the ever so heavy edition of Webster's dictionary, and thumbing through the pages for clarity. If I had a guess, these slight dialog abnormalities make me wonder whether perhaps the author is from Australia. I have had the pleasure of following a talented young author's story from that country on Wattpad. The abnormalities are similar; it's just what use there.
The other issues that bugged me was that I waited for that narrator to pull something spectacular from her hat at the end, but it never came. All through the story we are lead to believe that hybrids are more than they are. I kept waiting to find out what her's was but nope... nothing.
Finally, the main couple did sizzle and did get a few hot and heavy seconds in but somehow their connection to each other didn't bring the whole "I'll die for you" and "I love you for eternity even though we just met each other a week ago." feeling between them. It just didn't reach that point/arc yet. Maybe it was the sex scenes that didn't seal their eternal love for each other. The sex was good, but started to be over kill by the last few pages and they were not that profoundly unique from others I have read before. All sizzle but no stick.
Anyways, the mystery and the twist is what kept me reading it. It was actually nice to read a story from this type of writing style (written in parts and not as a whole) that actually had a plot to it.
This was a book that I decided to read because it was different. I got into a lot more than I thought I would.
Lorena is a member of the South Florida Red Wolf pack. She has a station that I have never read of before. She is the pack mistress. That means she will never have a mate or children. She is there to meet the needs of every male in the pack. She doesn't hate her job. She knows nothing about her parents or where she came from. She just does what she is told. The only thing that she does for herself is paint. She goes and gets a job for a couple hours a day at an art gallery.
R.W. is a wolf that paints. He paints things about himself that no mortal human would ever realize was really true. He isn't afraid of what he paints. When he meets Lorena he knows he has to have her. He also knows a lot of secrets that she needs to know about herself.
In this book there are some very suspenseful moments. You have Lorena and R.W fighting for their lives and what they believe in to get to the truth that is deeply hidden. So you also get a very erotic story out of it to. This book is eight mini stories in one that the author has put together to make one big book. There is another book after this that I'm not sure if I will read or not.
If you love books about wolves and a lot of sex in them this is the book for you.
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I really expected it to be nothing but sex (which gets boring after awhile), but there happened to actually be a well-written storyline after all, with lots of hot sex scenes. The character development is surprisingly good. We continue to learn more and more about the characters and really get drawn in to the story. The part that really made me happy, was that Lorena didn't fall into that well of despair and self hatred and embarrassment that most women would who are put through what she was put through. She saw the situation for what it was...something that she had no control over and most definitely was not her fault. Oh, and by the way, it has a wonderful HEA!
I like that it was not a typical werewolf story. Theirs a lot of anger bullying and rape attacking and romance. Some stuff is hard to read and upsetting but in the end a great HEA. I would suggest just buying the buddle and reading they quickies as a whole story.
