From the time Mayimouna Abou is a young girl, she works hard and harbors high ambitions to succeed; she dreams of becoming a powerful attorney. Despite growing up poor, Mayi's determination comes to fruition. During her university schooling, she meets Jean-Louis Paquita, a remarkable, handsome, high-level public servant. Both enviable African young elites, Mayi and Jean-Louis marry and have three, sweet intelligent children along with professional success. In the beginning, their relationship seems to be filled with an exceptional and lasting bliss. But Mayi's growing fame as a lawyer is at odds with Jean-Louis; he doesn't want to lose his beloved wife. He stoops to unspeakable acts, including using his children, to control Mayi and keep her by his side. Mayi discovers the betrayal, and she is filled with anger, pain, and utter disappointment. She wonders if she'll ever be able to forgive her husband. Through the characters of Mayi and Jean-Louis, the novel, The Neverending Love reveals the complex emotions of love in human beings, a state that can be absolutely wonderful, but definitely unpredictable and sometimes very painful.
The first part of the book was pretty good about Mayimouna's life after losing her father, at the age of seven and having to assume the responsibility of her siblings as her mother had to work long hours to provide for the family. She achieves magnificent goals and becomes a terrific lawyer. She marries and has three children with the love of her life. Here is where the story disintegrates for me. I keep thinking, give me a break, you are an intelligent woman, use your head, this is really stupid. Her unfaithful husband lies to their children telling them she is prostituting herself for her job and they sever ties with her. He files for a divorce and is successfully granted it without clearing her name of the accusations that he has fabricated. He bribes a judge to decide a very important case she has, against her. All this and then some touches and steamy sex and she falls back into his arms to face an even worse scenario.

Sometimes the story moved too slowly. Other times it moved too fast. We only get to know one character well, Mayimouna. As for why other characters progress as they do, there is plenty of room for our imagination to fill in the gaps! Overall, I liked "The Neverending Love", but sometimes became annoyed with characters. Copy acquired through Goodreads Giveaways.
It was a good read. D e aspire the fact that I disagree with some of the notions in the book, like the exclusivity of fault of the husband and such, all in all it is an entertaining read with a satisfying ending to the whole story and a good plot throughout.
