The new tablet Anita and Benson bought for the engineering fair crashes whenever a creepy face flashes on the screen. Then Dude from the Future Quarkum Phonon, while briefing them on a new mission for the Galactic Academy of Science, fades away with a look of terror on his face. Now Anita and Benson must race against time to learn about computer hacking, expose the enemies of G.A.S., try to save Quarkum and foil the computer virus that threatens to destroy the future of Earth. Part of THLs Galactic Academy of Science Series.
This is an incredibly fun Galactic Academy of Science adventure--and a great introduction to computer science with a taste of programming. Very bright.
Benson orders a new Greenberry tablet so that he and Anita can work on a school project, while Benson's mother generously lends them her credit card to make the purchase. On a side note, Benson mentions that his friend, Riley, has disappeared for three days and can't remember any details. It seems concerning, but they're both glad that she's okay. When the Greenberry arrives; it's faulty and they search for answers, hoping to get started on their project immediately. Unfortunately, their quest for resolution only leads to more questions; seemingly enough, the company from Hackensack, NJ that sold the Greenberry is sketchy. Even worse, Benson's mother is noticing some unauthorized charges on her credit card, the same one she lent her son to purchase the tablet. In addition, they also learn that another boy, about their age, has disappeared--just like Riley. They wonder if there is a connection and worry about kidnappers with broken computers so much that they can't seem to get to work on their project, and rightfully so!
These are not your average middle-school problems; Benson and Anita must resolve these issues with a Galactic Academy of Science mission. This secret society involves time-travel, hackers, history, programming, and computer science.
Highly recommended--this is a great middle-grade learning-tool and overall exciting read.
