Moonlight Sacrifice
Rocky Moon had big dreams for his life. With his sights set on playing in the NFL and his goal seemingly within reach, Candy, his wife, prepared herself for a windfall. Then, a career-ending injury stole his dream and Candy's ticket to a different life. She thought returning home would be the most devastating event she would ever experience. She couldn't be more wrong. Soon after Rocky's death local police and the FBI charged her with murder and attempting to sell her unborn child. Her life dropped into a dead fall a hundred times worse than living in her hometown of Pineview.

I enjoyed shows like: The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, The Wild Wild West, Bonanza, Wagon Train, and The Big Valley. Even then I enjoyed a good story. Only after I began to read stories by Poe, Heinlein, and O Henry did I decide to put pen to paper and fabricate my own tales.

I received this book from Rob Cummings through GoodReads as a drawing winner for an honest review.
What a GREAT book!!! I really loved this book from the first pages to the last. It grabbed my attention and kept it throughout. Robs writing style is wonderful and I won't hesitate to read any other books written by him.
This story starts with the hopes and dreams of two young kids in love. Rocky is a gifted young football player and Candy is a young girl with a very difficult life. Candy wants only one thing...to start a new life away from where her tortured life started. She has big dreams of being the wife of a NFL football player. Candy and Rocky are counting on his talent taking him from high school ball, to college ball, and finally to the NFL. Things don't go as planned and Rob takes his readers on a journey along with Rocky and Candy.
This book is a must read!

This is a really good story idea. A man whose dream of playing professional football died with a serious injury in college is deemed a failure by his superficial wife, who counted on his success to improve her life. Instead of a life of luxury, they struggle to make a living and reside in a trailer park. When the man dies unexpectedly from poisoning with antifreeze, is it a suicide or murder?
The story is told with both current events and flashbacks, and the cast of characters all seem to know more than they let on. The plot has some interesting twists that are not easy to predict, making it an interesting read.
I wish that a writer with such a good story idea had people around who were capable of proofreading and making the corrections necessary so that the grammar and word usage weren't such a distraction. Aside from the inappropriate use of commas rampant throughout the book (as well as the frequent failure to use them when needed) and incomplete thoughts, the wrong words used ranged from the commonplace (peddled a bike rather than pedaled) to the hilarious (filet minions....which I assume are little steaks that will do their leader's bidding?). Such errors are indicative of someone who fails to pay attention to details, and were a genuine distraction for me.

Moonlight Sacrifice is a murder mystery in which an ex-athlete (Rocky) who lost his chance to play in the big leagues is found dead, and the lead suspect is his horrible wife, Candy.
What I liked:
- The author moves back and forth between the present day investigation and significant past instances that led to Rocky's death. This use of flashback was highly effective in adding much-needed depth to the characters and made the plot more interesting.
- The author kept me guessing. Every time I had a new theory about what happened, there was a twist.
What I didn't like:
- The characters felt a little flat. The lead suspect, Rocky's wife Candy, has an interesting backstory, but she becomes a completely stereotypical, unsympathetic character by the end. Rocky is too idealized, by contrast.
- There were a number of plot inconsistencies, holes, and grammar errors.
- There is a lot of repetition, as well as entire scenes that could be cut to make the story a quicker read.
All in all, I was interested enough to keep reading till the very end, and would recommend it to mystery lovers, but probably more of a guy audience.

I really like how this books keeps you involved by showing the different characters from different angles, and the author knits it all together very nicely. A good story that moves right along. I just love this author and will look for other offerings from him! Great job!

A detailed plot that a soap opera watcher like myself thinks she can predict...and yet still be totally surprised in the end! Thank you Goodreads First Reads and Rob Cummings for the book.
