Missing Element

Rate this book
A group of female humanoid aliens chance upon the grey, sterilized world of a dystopian Earth, on a desperate search for the ‘missing element’ from their people’s psyche. Will they find it in their adventures with these fascinating creatures called humans? And will the earth-men give in to these tantalizing beings: submitting to their desires?

On this planet,Somehow Darrell is unsatisfied with his tedious full-time job working for someone else, just to pay to keep living in a flatpod he does not necessarily like; as the holo-TV shows keep playing on dystopian future Earth.

His relationship with his girlfriend, Linda, begins to show the strain of a life led without true feeling. But Darrell does not even begin considering that change is possible, until a number of chance events begin to lead him out of his comfort zone, and into a passionate, sensual adventure of escape, exploration, and finally...discovery.

Darrell lives with his shrewish and incompatible girlfriend, who he barely likes. She barely likes him too. Thankfully, they break up right away. The dystopia they live in leaves them afraid of most things and stuck in rigid ruts. The lackluster sex between them leaves Darrell willing to overcome his fears and have sex with the first alien chick who happens along, who also wants to have sex with the first human she's ever seen.

The good? Love the cover. It's really pretty. The descriptions of the spacecraft and space travel are good and often the language is very poetic. The tech is interesting.

The not-so-good? I never connected with any of the characters because the narrative hopped from one to another every time someone wanted sex which they were all really eager to do with perfect strangers.

It could have used a proofreader. There were lots of punctuation errors which abruptly stopped just after halfway through. I'm not a grammar nazi, but there were so many I started losing interest in the story. And! it! hit! one! of! my! pet-peeves! Can you tell which one? Sorry but using exclamation points like periods gives me a headache to read. If the story had been a full-length novel I would not have finished.

Overall, the writing was poetic most of the time, the characters okay, the "romance" reduced to mostly sex or off-screen. The mission was kind of vague. I won't ever reread this story but it was good enough to consider reading more from this author later.

The first thing that came to mind on finishing the story was, "well that was different". Is that good or bad, a bit of both really. I struggled with some but enjoyed much more!

This part of the synopsis:
Darrell's relationship with his girlfriend, Linda, begins to show the strain of a life led without true feeling. But Darrell does not even begin considering that change is possible, until a number of chance events begin to lead him out of his comfort zone, and into a passionate, sensual adventure of escape, exploration, and finally...discovery
pretty much sums up the story.

This story had plenty of heat, and it was great to see one of the humanoids deflower a male virgin ;)

There were a few things that I found myself going, 'as if that would happen', however once I reminded myself this story was one of fantasy I was able to lose myself in it and ended up rather liking it.
