Reena was distraught. It seemed unbelievable that she too had succumbed to this rat race of life. The consequences had been dire: a marriage that had broken even before the profundity of those three magical words, “I Love You” could sink in.
“Touch of Mist” is a glitzy, modern-day love story of two young, sophisticated, IT professionals, Gautham and Reena, who meet by chance, sparks ignite and they fall head over heels in love with each other.
They tie the knot and start a new life. But no sooner do they do that that fights erupt and egos clash. The first casualty is love, which plummets and marriage turns miserable; break-up beckons and the relationship dies.
Aftermath. Does Reena commit suicide or fall in love with another person? Does she reconcile with her first love Gautham?
This story meanders through different emotions that touch the lives of the protagonists such as love, friendship, marriage, heartbreak, grief, anticipation, humour, disgust, joy, fear and ends with a heart-warming credo that “Life is to Live”.
A blogger and an avid trekker, Deepika Muthusamy enthralls us with her debut novel, Touch of Mist as she captivates her readers by delineating human emotions at its depth. Deepika is passionate about badminton, yoga and gardening. Charming and versatile, she is set out to elucidate her theory of life through her novel.
She has also been an Assistant Director for a Tamil film titled Idhuvum Kadanthu Pogum (Even This Will Pass)
It is an easy read; It has nearly 200 pages where I finished in 3 hours. The book contain main two characters; Reena and Gautham, two IT employees fall in love with each other. Their parents open heatedly accepts their marriage. They soon got married and lived happily ever after.
I know what are you asking, No problem at all? Is this a fairy tale ? Humans always have problem, don't they? Yes, they do. Their problem is themselves. Gautham behaves completely like a man where Reena does like a woman. They share their opinion which leads to argument which leads to fight; then they got separated, they missed each other, finally they reconcile. Interestingly, It was not happened once. Through out the book, it happened 4 or 5 times but not in one scene you feel like bored. We can easily imagine their lives with ours.
The other two main characters is Gautam's dad and his friend Kishore both giving relationship advises. Others are just passing clouds. Overall, it is an awesome work by an debutant author Deepika Muthusamy. She has a long road to go. I never felt like reading a female author book. She matched superly with male thoughts through out the book.
Positives # Gautham's character is lovely; he is the matured, soft nature guy that ever woman needed in their lives. But at the end he turns completely like Reena.
# Reena's has a mixed character; She is very matured, innocent and at times foolish and helpless. Her character develops well after her suicide attempt. I want to thank Deepika for that, how many female authors giving less importance to female character.
# Kishore's character is a great relief because the first phase of the book has only Reena and Gautam. It's good to have the third guy; he was good in advise. He does that through out the book.
# Gautam's dad has less dialogues but his character is a remembered one.
# Scooter drenched scene, Cricket stadium scene, Walk at the night scene, Proposal scenes, earth quake scene, Gautam and reena's fight are the best scenes in it.
Negatives # Gautam and reena's fight was interesting at first. But they keep doing that through out the book obviously for different reasons which makes a slight discomfort.
# Reena became a social activist and got famous towards the end. It was really filmy.
# Honestly, no love making scene in a love story but has two or three romantic scenes.
A day before yesterday I was reading an interview of Niwazzudin Siddique. He said that more important for me is the selection of director rather than story. A bad director can make a good story bad and a good director can make an ordinary story, an epic. That's what I feel about the author Deepika muthuswamy. Her Novel Touch of mist is a day today story of young generation struggling with the handling of relations. The story may be a simple story where Gautam and Reeena meets, falls in love with each other, got married and then begun the face of crisis eventually leading to their separation but the way the author has converted this story into script is remarkable. The best and most unique part of this book is Adam, Eve conversation which adds stars to this book. It not only give humorous touch but instantly explains that "Men are from Mars and women from Venus". One message which I liked most in this book is- " Sometimes your ear and eyes can betray you but not your trust". Trust on each other is the strongest pillar of a relation. Overall a very good and pleasurable read with strong message. I wish best of luck to Deepika for her coming ventures. regards
Thanks to Amazon.com for giving a free sample of this book on their site and enabling me to spread the good word about this great book. The Chinese could show it as evidence that Indians’ knowledge of English is less than theirs. Read this book only if you are semi-literate or want to reformat your knowledge of English. Grade four teachers could possibly use it to ask students to find the maximum number of errors. The publisher is Cyberwit.net, which has also published the blooper-loaded meandering “Tall man Short Shadow” by Vipin Behari Goyal. It begins with “I GONNA QUIT”, which should warn you to quit. The book has “bed-room” and “un-employed” (hyphenated but why?), followed by “wooden, framed photograph” (meaning photo with wooden expressions or photo of blockheads?). Then comes “She got recruited by one of the top most Multi National Company soon after her graduation.” On reading “…observed her egg-shaped eye”, I decided this is the story of a one-eyed blockhead with an egg-shaped eye, a tale extruded but not checked, the ideal weapon to kill the British by murdering their language. I would like to repeat my comment given for The Sixth Gear by Lalith Jain: If there is a single page without errors, it is not due to lack of effort by the author or the editor. If this book has received any good reviews, I have no comments about those reviewers.
The story is a sincere depiction of a reality. The main highlight of the story is an attempt to convey the message for the mass with suicidal tendency. Suicide is not the solution for anything. Another highlight is the unbiased character portrayal. She made sure that the positives and negatives of both protagonists are portrayed. I was frankly getting tired lately, due the perfect fairy tale love stories where the lovers are separated by accidents or natural calamities. The relation between Reena and Gautham seems so real. Each and every incident of love and fights are effortlessly rendered. Great care have been given in character build up. Seeing the current trend the story has a potential to become a bestseller if re worked a bit more. If you are also looking for a realistic love story apart from the perfect lovers' paradise, you will love this book. Drawbacks
I have been following Deepika's blog lately and I feel that she did not use her full potential in the book. A thorough proofreading could have added a star.
The book is a mix of love and volatile relationships.
It's a beautiful love story and the nature of relationships we have in today's world has also been portrayed very well.
Editing needs to be looked into as there are a lot of mistakes towards the end which takes the charm away from the book. Also regional language words could have been translated into English.
First half is very captivating and second half too holds the story but the end is not as good as the whole story.
Overall it's a good reading experience but could have been better.
I had received this book for Christmas give away and started reading it as soon I received it. The story is very realistic and it can be easily related to our daily personal and professional. The characters mentioned in the story are the one whom you see in office or in your neighbor door. It’s a must read for everyone. I am surprised to see that I had finished this book in 4 hours. After years, I felt I came across an interesting novel that is worth reading. After reading this book I had got a clear picture where the relationship are heading these days
