I picked this book up immediately after I finished The Man Without Rules. There was no way I could take a break in between to see what would happen to this amazing trio of Holden, Sebastian and the woman who has them both enthralled. I honestly don't know if I am glad I did.
Hellena's last stunt still fresh in our memories, we jump right in the action as Red swears off Sebastian once more. Their professional collaboration though forces them to hang out together at a costume event. Still guilty for cheating on her husband, Mariss treats Bassy to some of her default friendly yet sexually loaded wit. Yet it is Holden who lets the cat out of the bag, much to her relief. But the joy is short lived. The past has been stirred, and it strikes ruthlessly with a vengeance, taking from Mariss the ones she loves the most.
And that is as much as I can say about the plot without spoiling it. Or pulling my hair out one by one screaming at the top of my lungs. I am one for plot twists, but this one had me actually messaging the damn author asking fruitlessly why... why... why did you do this to meeee? Now that I have calmed down enough to accept the facts, I tip my hat and send her kudos, for she kept me on my toes all night.
This was an emotional book. I cried so much, so hard, and I honestly didn't expect it. And just when I thought I had gotten over it, indulged in some sizzling hot sex and some even more fiery encounters... BOOM! Another slap, and more tears flow. Roller-coaster is but one way to describe this story. A fantastic read is another.
According to the author: Word Count = 102,000 Page Count = 353
I thought the first book was good, this one was even better. I love Mariss, such a strong woman and a bad ass. This book took me on a emotional journey and I loved every minute of it.
MAIN CHARACTERS: Mariss Red: Book publisher who has an affair with Sebastian and feels guilty over it and tries to make it up to her husband. Sebastian Boa: Hot-shot model man-whore who is trying to get Mariss to be with him. Holden Red: Mariss's dutiful husband Brenda: Sebastian's consort...whatever that means! Alina: The judge's daughter who is trying to get revenge on Mariss
LIKES: How tough Mariss is The fact the Sebastian couldn't sleep without Mariss
DISLIKES: Unnecessary! Sebastian's character throughout the book Brenda Alina Waayyy too much for me!
OVERALL THOUGHTS ABOUT BOOKS: I was not very happy with this book. I expected so much more. I wanted the reason Mariss and Sebastian were together was because they wanted to be together not because Mariss couldn't have what she really wanted! This book made it seem that the only reason Mariss wanted Sebastian was because she lusted over him. God, that was so annoying. There was no real development in their relationship. I hate the extra unnecessary plot twist I don't know, this book just pissed me off a lot. Especially with Sebastian...I mean come on! When Mariss needed someone he was on and off with her because he was with other women! WTF?!?! A real man would have put his man-whore way aside and been there for Mariss in her time of need. The fact the Mariss seemed to have lost everything made me so emotional, and the fact that Sebastian was still fucking other women made me mad as hell! God, I just did not like Sebastian in this book at all. And WTF is with the ending??? God, this book made me so mad! and it did not end in a high note for me. I was just very disappointed.
STEAM LEVEL: Steamy
DOES IT END IN A CLIFFHANGER?: No, I guess not, but I hated the ending :-/
FAVORITE QUOTES: "Don't think you're going to lure me into your pants with your magic penis eyes."
FINAL RATING: 2 stars...it got bumped down the more I thought about it.
WOULD I RECOMMEND?: No, I wish I didn't read this one and stopped with the first book.
I enjoyed this better than the last. The story line was fantastic, and at times gave me whip lash. If the grammar was more mature this would be an outstanding book. There were still what I would class as childish remarks which annoyed me, but at the same time I loved this story. This author is definitely improving with her writing, and if there is to be another book I would love to read it.
There were so many lows and highs within this book, that really kept you on your seat. There were definitely situations I never saw coming, which adds to the appeal of this book. A definite read.
I would live to see if Bassy and Red make a go of it;)...so hopefully a bother book?
Hold on to your seats because this one is an emotional roller coaster!!! This is book 2 in the series and picks up with Mariss dealing with loss and anger and distress, with Sebastian drowning in uncertainty and with a whole lot of stress and angst. The character progression is great and we get more insight into who they are as people and who they might be with each other and to each other. Well written, steady flow, full of emotion. Love it!
WOW!! Talk about hot sexy testosterone on a cracker!! I laughed and I cried and if there isn't a HEA at the end of this series I'm going to be so mad!!!
I enjoyed the story and the bits of humanity kemp brings to her characters. The book could have used another round of editing i am looking forward to reading the next adventure
Misspelled words, misused vocabulary and incorrect punctuation litter the book.
Mariss Red, and Sebastian Boa that is really what the second book is about. The author changes the entire spectrum of the story, instead of there being a feud between the husband and their threesome partner the author decides to kill off the husband so that Mariss and Sebastian could be together. I really was not happy with the way this portion of the story turns out. I will admit that I did kind of see this happening, maybe not the attack on Holden but I knew some way he was going to be written out of the picture. Poor Mariss, she was put through so much in this book the loss of her husband and the nervous break downs, yes plural, and the surprise pregnancy and loss of Holden and Mariss’s child. I think the author was going for a lot of dramatic twists and turns but I just felt as if the world was ganging up on poor Mrs. Red.
Throughout this book Mariss shows off a lot of her acquired skills from her pass time, I can understand the reaction she was feeling with the world pinned against her and the Sebastian Boa never backing down. I felt a lack of depth with the characters, everyone appears to be very one sided I know there will be growth or an attempt of it in the next book, but I would have loved to read more about Sebastian and his promiscuous ways, maybe learn why he wants to sleep with anything that bats their eyelashes. Speaking of Sebastian, I could not stand the fact that he was sleeping with Brenda, she was so exasperating. Brenda was supposed to be older than Sebastian’s mother, and yet she acted as if she were a child. For Brenda to know and understand how Sebastian lives his life with multiple women around she should really have stepped off her high horse with her nagging, and pure jealousy.
Overall the story needed a little more work, I would have liked to see more interactions between Holden and Sebastian maybe a little more tug of war instead of offing Holden as soon as she got the chance. There were a lot of chapters that seemed to repeat, Mariss says no, Sebastian pushes, they end up fooling around, on and on. Let’s face it, we all knew Mariss and Sebastian were going to end up together, I just wish we could see some time in between her grieving and hooking up with Sebastian. He still could’ve come in and saved the day but from afar.
I thought book one was fierce, The Man Without Rules, but oh my gosh … this sequel gave me life! Tyffani is very brilliant for this sequel! The twists and turns had me confused, happy, sad, angry and so many other emotions!
This picks up where Hellena, Sebastian's ex assistant and consort, has told Mariss secret past to the press. Mariss is pissed and heated with Sebastian and has walked away. She returns home to find her husband has returned home and allows her to have relations with Juliet -- a female, crazy right?! Mariss tried everything to stay faithful, but it didn't work. Once her husband opened up Pandora's box she developed feelings for Sebastian and was now stuck with her love for her husband, her loyalty being broken and her feelings for Sebastian -- too much for one lady.
The only thing I can say about this sequel without is spoiling it is that I just cannot believe what the hell happened to Holden! OMG I cried my eyes out. Mariss is a strong woman for how she dealt with it all. I mean it tore me to pieces. I loved how Sebastian was there for her every step of the way still being his playful, sexual self. It was nice to see him care for her.
This Alina chick was so disturbing to me -- seriously! I just wanted to jump through the pages and cut her myself! She was delusional and such a daddy's girl that she refused to acknowledge the hurt and pain her father put Mariss through. This chick is screwed up for what she did to Holden and Holiss. I know people can be deranged, but come on now -- when you try to kill babies you are just seriously not in the right frame of mind -- ever.
After two losses Mariss was still strong and Sebastian still stood by her. I admired their foolish relationship, not how they got together so much or the end result, but how they always were together…there for one another. It was precious in so many ways to me. I will say that Sebastian and Mariss have some crazy a** enemies, lol.
I hated B because he wouldn't leave Mariss alone and Brenda was a sad old woman thinking she could be Sebastian's number one. Pitiful.
If you're looking for an adult erotica with drama and crazy females that will make you laugh, cry and giggle…this is the book for you!
This has to be one of the best adult contemporary erotic romances I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
I have to admit that I haven’t read the first book in this series, and I probably should have, because at the beginning of this book I felt like the odd man out. As the characters partied it up, as Marris and Sebastian shared knowing smiles and looks, I knew there was so much more to this story and it obviously all went down in the first book; but, having said that, it took nothing away from this book. In fact, it actually added a sense of mystery to the story and I cannot wait to read A Man Without Rules.
I really got sucked into this story when a devastating turn of events shattered Marris’ life, and the emotions just flowed from the pages from that point on, as she tried to put herself back together with the help of some amazing friends.
Mariss’ relationship with Sebastian was complicated. There was an obvious attraction and plenty of chemistry, but Bassy’s way of life meant he wouldn’t become emotionally involved, therefore Marris was forced to do the same. I really loved how mature their friendship and relationship was. They knew what was expected of them and what they each expected, and even though deep down there was a longing for more, they never allowed their feelings to mess with things. There were times that both of them showed their jealous streak, but that only intensified the sexual tension between them. I really fell in love with them as individuals and as a couple. They were fun and witty people that I could get along with in real life. I loved their sarcasm, I understood their moodiness, and my heart ached for both of them when life seemed to drown them in misery.
This book was emotionally charged with tons of humor, great sex scenes, even better friendships, and the ultimate test of how love can change people for the better. With a solid plotline, clean and crisp writing that held my attention throughout, and exciting characters, I can only describe it as flawless.
I loved the first book in this series and didn't think this would live up to my expectations. How wrong was i? This book is fantastic, it had me hooked from the beginning. I loved Mariss and Sebastian in The Man Without Rules and hated Holden with a passion. This book completely turned all that on it's head. Mariss is still married to Holden, and trying to fight her attraction to Sebastian. Sebastian, been Sebastian, is still pushing as much as he can. Then tragedy strikes Mariss, and she finds Sebastian still there, waiting. I found Mariss really selfish at times, i started liking Holden and even as i write this i'm still not sure what i think of Sebastian. I loved the way the characters have developed and the twists just kept on coming. I found this book a lot more emotional than the first one, my head was spinning trying to keep up with who to like. I don't like cheating of any kind, but i was praying they'd finally get together, there's some sort of connection between them, despite everything that happens and i think they're both as bad as the other. They both had me grumbling at my kindle in annoyance and feeling completely wrung out by the end of it. Liking, hating, liking, wanting to punch someone, back to liking them again, this book was brilliant and i can't wait for the next one. If this books anything to go by then book 3 is sure to be another rollercoaster.
The Red Wife follows Mariss Red and her struggles with the love of her life Holden and her guilt with the fling she had with Sebastian Boa. This book is more from her side and yet the way the author wrote it your not left wondering what is going on with the other characters in the book. The author took the first book and second book and made it flow from one straight into the second one without any blank spots or little black holes to make you wonder if you missed something. Each of the characters are unique and she knows exactly how to bring secondary characters into the story to make it exciting and keep you coming back for more. I loved the first book, but will have to say this one was just as good. I do have to say that a certain part of this book seriously broke my heart and made me cry, especially since through the first and this book your able to understand the true feelings of Mariss, when the author said her life gets turned upside down I felt like I was right there and could feel her pain. With each book your able to know that the author puts her passion in her writing and to me that's probably the one thing that makes me love these books. I would recommend this series to anyone!
Yes, again. Same rating. I can't help it! This one was brilliant in that it switched to Mariss' POV, which was great, but then I started feeling like Sebastian was a big ass a lot. First, I felt Mariss was unreasonable, then Bassy. Wow, I can't make up my mind.
Firstly, the writing and dialog were superb of course. I do love the dirty, witty comments these two make to each other. They have great chemistry and it's amazing.
The part I'm having issues with is kind of how the Holden thing came about (and that's all I can give without spoilers guys) as well as the other major issue. I feel horrible for Mariss, but I can't help but feel that she should have been having more than 'feelings' before. *sigh* These two are amazing together and I love them together - Bassy and Mariss - but again, I had some issues with this not being my typical type of romance.
Plus Sebastian's double standard jealousy was a pain. Geez. Yet, he never got really jealous before when the three of them were together. So it's a tad inconsistant I think. Just a bit.
However, as always, excellent plot and excellently written. I'm just not usually into a series quite like this. In fact, it might be a unique experience for me. Nicely done and realistic though! 3.5 stars!
The Red Wife picks up where The Man Without Rules leaves off. Mariss's secrets coming to light and her blaming Sebastian. The whole situation with Helena was pretty obvious in the first book so you kind of know who to blame. Mariss is feeling guilt about having sex with Sebastian and doesn't know how to tell Holden. The guilt eats away at her. But this whole time Sebastian is continuing his man whore ways After everything Mariss goes through and in this book and how hard Sebastian has chased her he makes he be around his other women. She lets him get away with it.
As much as this book drove me crazy with all that was going on it still held my attention. Why Mariss would put up with Sebastian's ways even when he was supposed to be with her. I just don't know. He tells her he wants to be with her but at the same time he hasn't changed his ways. There was just so much emotion in this book. Parts that make you cry, scream out in anger and frustration. Some seriously hot sex scenes and a few tender moments. One more book to go. It is almost to the point you start to wonder if this series is even going to end the way you want it to.
Mariss and Holten, how will she tell him what she has done, will he forgive her? Sebastian is always there, always pushing her. When tragedy strikes, Sebastian is always there to pick up the pieces, but somethings he just doesn't handle well. His feelings kept tucked neatly away though everyone can see how in love he is, but will he finally tell her? I can say this book was one I couldn't put down, I read it in one day, it was that good!!! The author puts so much into it, so much emotion, so many lives changed. I was cheering for these two the entire time!! I am so glad the first book was free over the weekend, on a whim I took a chance, never having read this author before. I am so glad I did!!! This was intriguing with everything going on, how their friendship and love for each other comes out on top when things go so wrong. Read the first book Man Without Rules then read this one. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!
I will definitely be reading more from this author!!!
First off I love that this book is told from Mariss point of view and that you are given just enough of a look back to book 1 to feel like you never stopped reading the first book. The twist and turns this one adds to this story are amazing. Some of the people you never thought would play part in the events and then find out they do just makes you crave more of this read.
We get lots more of Sebastian and Mariss in this book. These two just light up the pages. Their fight to friend zone their relationship and move makes you want them together even more.
I've love every second of this book and looking forward to getting my hands on The Power Couple to see the next chapter unfold.
Wow wow wow. I jumped into book 2 straight after book 1. If you haven't read the first book "The Man without Rules" then please do because it only makes this book SO much better. I loved this book as much, if not more than the first one. I take my hat off to Ms Kemp, this love triangle story is gutsy with great depth in the main characters Mariss and Sebastian. Neither are your typical heroine or hero, with all rough edges, finesse and flaws, which make this book incredibly exciting and addictive. I needed to read it in one sitting and straight after I finished book 1. I would love to see a novella closing the chapter so to speak. I definitely need some sleep now.....
I loved the first of this series and I love this one even more!!!! Wow! This book had my emotions all over the darn place. On minute the pages are on fire, then are heartbroken, to cracking up-seriously laughing out loud, then being on the edge of your seat! It was an amazing book and I CAN NOT wait for the third installment! Brilliant writing and a must read!
I read some of the other reviews-this book has a little bit of everything. It is edgy and not for the faint of heart. The first book had me questioning the relationships of the main characters-this book actually made me appreciate the relationships and answered a ton of questions. I loved this book!!
I definitely enjoyed this book more than the first.
I have to say the beginning of the book had me torn. I couldn't decide who I wanted Mariss to end up with. I loved Holdin and Sebastian.
In this book Mariss definitely has a lot of ups and downs. And the author definitely kept me intrigued with all the curve balls she put in. I could. It put it down, I just needed to know what was going to happen next.
This is a great read for anyone that likes to read erotic books with some suspense and action. I totally recommend this book.
I'd say the fact that I stayed up all night and read this book in one day kinda shows how much I liked it lol. The sequel to The Man Without Rules...The Red Wife was a great in depth look into Mariss Red. I decided after reading book one that Red was a bad b*tch but after reading this book I must admit... I think I got lady wood this chick is seriously bad ass!! Highly recommend this series it is definitely a must read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was disappointed in Mariss. I never expected more from Sebastian so I wasn't disappointed in the way he acted throughout this book. I was mad at the author for how much she put Mariss in. The deaths that littered this book was appalling. there was more spelling issues and words that should not have been in it like eatable (edible). overall I was starting to wane away from the book because this wasn't as good as the first.
Loved 'The Red Wife' (The Man Without Rules). I'm a big fan of Sebastian and Mariss . They have something between them and Sebastian knows it, but he just know what it is (that would be called LOVE) Mariss is just trying to get through her tragedies, with Sebastian at her side. I like the fighting and the making up. Great chemistry between the two. Looking forward to 'The Power Couple'.
After not liking the Man Without Rules that much, I can honestly say I really liked this one. My only complaint is that I'm still left with questions. I felt the ending was rushed, but I'm hoping for more Red and Bassy.
At first i couldn't get into it. Then after putting the book down for a while.I was able to finish it. The book is told from Mariss side. All the characters are in it from the first one..With a few more that we get to meet. would like to see if Sebastian and Mariss can actually make a relationship work.
Really?!?!?! I want the third book bow! :-) I am in love with Sebastian and Mariss. I absolutely love this series so.far and I cannot wait to see where its going to go and end. My heart broke in this book for Mariss with all she had to deal with, but Sebastian was there for her, even if he is a jerk. Amazing story!!
I read the first book in this series and immediately wanted to read this book. This is an emotional story. Sometimes I didn't know what to think or feel. But that's what I love. Can't wait for the next book.
I enjoyed finding out more about Mariss and Sebastian. They are such a fun couple. With the twists and turns it was captivating and kept me engaged and turning pages.
