Nearly-six-year-old Daisy wants a dragon for her birthday. It seems out of the question for her mum to fulfill her daughter's dreams - they live in an ordinary home and there's not much money to spare. But Mum can give plenty of time, imagination and love - with a surprisingly wonderful result.
When I was a child I was in love with dragons, and that love has followed me into adulthood. Being a girl though, it was looked at as odd or bizarre. I am so glad I found this book about a little girl who loves dragons so much that she wants a real one. It's actually quite a beautiful story in a very understated way and finally, a girl is the heroine in a dragon book instead of a boy. Gorgeous, beautiful and ever so cute!
Master 4 checked this one out of the library recently and it is now one of his favourites; a cute story about a girl who desperately wants a real dragon for her birthday, and her mother who is determined to make her daughter's wish come true, as impossible as it seems to be. With lots of love, imagination and creativity she manages to give her daughter the birthday of her dreams.
