This book is inspiring as you see Hammond's own personal account about how he was rescued from the vices of his past through writing. His love of the craft is expressed throughout the book. He gives you insightful in depth interviews that he has done in the past that show how he has changed as a person from his beginnings as a writer to the success that he now enjoys.
Hammond also speaks specifically to writers giving them tips on how to write, to identify why they write, and how to generate ideas. He is very helpful to the early aspiring writer giving them the motivation and advice to follow out their dreams. Hammond tells his readers that if they want to be an author they will have to work for it. He identifies the problem that many aspiring authors have which is they never get to the actually writing process. They will talk about their ideas but will not write it down or craft it into a narrative that they can publish. Hammond also has a few sections in the book specifically geared toward screenwriter and give them tips on how to remain unique in a town that has thousands of scripts submitted daily.
The author also tells his readers how they can go about getting published. He offers up the pros and cons to traditional publishing over self-publication. He discusses the importance of things such as an agent and the challenges of the publishing industry at large. He addresses the issues of payment, royalties, recognition, branding yourself, and promotion for your book.
This book is a wealth of knowledge for the reader who wishes to pursue writing. Many of your questions can be answered by Robert Hammond's delightful, uplifting writing style. While Hammond is encouraging he has enough tough love to make sure that you don't miss out on something great because you have never mustered the courage to try. Hammond is a big believer in the asking the question what if and challenges you to ask yourself that question. You may fear rejection from publishers, harsh reviews or lack of sales, so you keep your manuscript. Many writers huddle in a corner and ask what if I fail because their writing is a part of them. The question that Hammond poses is what if you don't?

I have been trying to write my first book for about a year now. I have also rewritten, re-plotted, started over, quit etc. etc. about 100 times!

When I saw this book I knew I needed to read it.

What I loved about this book:

1. Instead of telling you "just write" the author actually gives you solid advice on HOW to "just write". How to write a three sentence outline (thesis?) and expand on it. Decide to write for five minutes a day or five hours a day. Just commit!

2. I liked how he compared and went over in great detail the two main options available to authors. Traditional Publishing or Self Publishing. I definitely agree that they both have their advantages and disadvantages.
I don't agree with authors who treat one or the other with disdain. Everyone is different, you know?

3. The author gave great advice on how to come up with a great story and make sure that all the necessary elements are included.

What I didn't like about this book:

1. Still trying to come up with something...

Lastly, the authors personal story is amazing. Not only was he able to turn his life around but he continues to help countless others.

Many aspiring writers I know asks: “How do you write a book?” And successful authors will tell you to just start writing like you’re fighting for your life. In “Transformed by Writing” Robert Hammond says the same thing, however he adds that you need a plan for writing if you’re serious about making your book a bestseller.

Hammond answers that age-old question: “Is writing hard?” Not only does he provide the answer, he also offers his expert advice using examples to show you what it takes to become a bestselling author. When you read the book you get the how-to, and the takeaway that anyone who has the desire can write a book.

You’ll find Hammond’s exclusive interviews with A-List radio talk show hosts inspiring as he discusses his experience in life and how it lead to writing. If you want to become a writer he shows you how to get there too. I found admirable how the author was capable of identifying a writer’s strengths and weaknesses with a few simple self-test questions. And how he contrasts famous visionary authors of the bible to famous writers of modern time, one being Cecil B. DeMille producer of “The Ten Commandments.” Hammond followed DeMille’s playbook to launch his own successful writing career.

Hammond draws you into the story with his impressive and compelling personal narrative of his own life, which was no walk in the park. He takes you on his writing journey from prison to pardon, and he’s not holding anything back. The beauty of this story is that it leads somewhere, bestselling books. His roadmap to writing will help you organize your thoughts and get them on paper to “I’m published.”

As someone who hosts interviews [#WritersKaboodle] on social media, I think “Transformed by Writing” will fulfill many of your curiosities about writing. I highly recommend reading this book if you are an aspiring writer who needs inspiration to get started, or a well-seasoned author who needs a little motivation from time-to-time.
