What happens when the Devil demands his due? Shapeshifter Rafael Valdez has always protected others, including his vampire friends during the day. Now he owns a successful nightclub, is married to werecat Lacy and has triplets. He's spent years trying to deny his demon side, but it's impossible once his daughter is born. Desperate, Rafe descends into Hell, determined to bargain with the Devil. What must he do to save his child? The Real Vampire gang offers to help him in what becomes a battle of good versus evil. When she started writing, she was still teaching and used the pseudonym Lynn McKay. You can probably still find her historical and two romantic suspense books for a penny on-line. Now that she’s no longer in the classroom and discovered the fun of writing about vampires, she uses her real name. Too bad some people think Gerry is a boy's name or short for Geraldine. No, it's not. Really.
She's still writing her Real Vampires series but is back to romantic suspense and contemporaries. Her Texas Heat series starts in Houston, her home town. Then there's her Lone Star Suspense series set in Austin where she went to the University of Texas. She loves the hill country there and brought some of her favorite characters from the Texas Heat series to Austin for the fast-paced suspense in the three books in that series.

Wow! If you’re looking for an action-packed read, with the ultimate of good versus evil, this is it. Rafael Valdez is part shifter and part demon. Rafe has worked his whole life to bury the evil demon side of himself, and instead has chosen to be a protector. He’s happily married to the love of his life, werecat Lacy, and has darling triplet kiddos and a successful night club in Austin, TX. But his daughter, Daniela, is manifesting his demon side, grabbing the attention of both Lucifer, and Rafe’s not-so-nurturing mother, Lilith, who also happens to be the most powerful demon around. Rafe knows he can help Daniela manifest the best of herself, but can he keep her safe from the evil after her right now?
Rafe finds himself in the fight of his life, trying to satisfy Lucifer’s demands so that the devil will leave his baby alone, and at the same time, keep his family from falling victim to his mother’s schemes, a woman whose main concern has always been herself. Rafe’s Real Vampire friends join in to help him, along with a charming angel from God named Abe. And believe me, Rafe needs all the help he can get.
Gerry Bartlett’s Real Vampire world is filled with gutsy characters who, if you ever find yourself in a battle in the paranormal world, you really want on your side. But Lucifer is determined to have his way, and it’s a toss-up as to who will come up the winner in this one. Very exciting and imaginitive story!!

Make sure you are comfortable when you start this book, because the action starts on page one and keeps you on the edge of your seat until The End. Rafe is half Demon and his daughter carries his Demon blood. Now, the Devil is demanding his due--Rafe’s 6 yo daughter. Or is there another way to win his child’s freedom? Rafe’s wife is adamant that Rafe should not sacrifice his own soul to save their daughter, but that’s a promise Rafe can’t make. Can Rafe save his daughter from the clutches of Lucifer without sacrificing his own soul? Can he negotiate with the Devil? Can the Devil be trusted to keep his word?

Rafe’s stepfather Lucifer wants his half demon granddaughter Daniela to join him in Hell. To delay him. his mother Lilith has taken her somewhere to hide her until Rafe can get Lucifer to change his mind. In order to do that, Lucifer sets him to do 5 tasks in 5 days.
I love how all the gang (Glory, Jerry, etc.) join in to help him, especially Ian. It was interesting seeing how they worked together to get each task done. Lilith basically stabbed herself in the back with is came to her granddaughter. And there’s too much talking about what and why they should do something than actually doing it.
Fave scenes: Glory reasoning with Ajax, Rafe’s unexpected help from above, ‘poke the vampire’ and Dani’s ‘dirty’ hands.

When Rafes friends hear what is going on they immediately decide they will help get his daughter back.
This is the story of the epic battle between good and evil. Lots of great twists and interesting characters. Love this series. Looking forward to more from this author. More Real Vampires.

Good Beats Evil...With a Little Help From Friends
In this story the reader learns about Rafe's life with Lacy. When his mother, the powerful demon, Lilith threatens his family, all his vampire friends gather to help him. It is an exciting story that reminds us how important friends and family are. We also meet some new characters that might appear again in future writings.

Gerry Bartlett Rafe Takes the Heat
Another great book to this series. Plenty of action to keep you entertained, sadly couple of story line errors as it says Glory sired the singer Ray Caine, which she didn’t, she just mentored him after he was turned. And it said her and Rafe had never got together but they had. Other wise I loved it, well worth reading.
