Dracula-The Devil's nosferatu

Rate this book
BACKGROUND TO THIS WORK
Dracula–The Devil’s Nosferatu continues the course of events established in the prequel novel, Within the Glass Darkly. The novel can be read as a sequel or as a story in its own right.
By way of homage to Bram Stoker, the author has included a fresh reinterpretation of Stoker’s Dracula within the pages of the novel. Several familiar characters from Stoker’s work feature throughout the book, which develops the original plot of its sequel novel, Within the Glass Darkly.
Dracula-The Devil's Nosferatu traverses centuries of vampire lore and further reveals new aspects to the origin of the Nosferatu. The story covers several eras, from ancient history to the 15th and 19th centuries. The author has also used details of actual historic events to enhance and develop the plot throughout the novel.
The story is as much about the human struggle to learn methods by which they can confront and defeat the preternatural creatures as it is about the true nature of the vampire. To some extent the book is an account of the Vampire as originally presented in Victorian literature, paying due homage to Le Fanu and Stoker. The novel deliberately mirrors that earlier time in Gothic novel writing and reveals a possible reason for the historic and fictional Dracula becoming inseparable within this genre.

This second novel in the Glass Darkly series faithfully continues where Within the Glass Darkly leaves off. Our hero and vampire hunter, General Spielsdorf has finally encountered Dracula and with his many friends, some new and some old, the battle for the fate of humanity, against this new foe and his old enemies, the Karnstein siblings, Sebastian and Carmilla, continues in an epic and bloody fashion.
The brilliance of author WG Evans, with his gothic-style story telling, comes to the fore as he spins the readers through different times, allowing the reader to fully understand the richness of the characters and the story. A exceptional and throat-grasping tale that keeps true with the Dracula history with a mind-bending twist on the origins of the Nosferatu.
With my 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from Vol 1 and another 5 deserving stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this extraordinary and brilliant sequel, how could any reader go past 10 stars of phenomenal adventure.

This book is heavily influenced by Bram Stokers "Dracula" but carries the entwined story lines from "Camilla" that had been the main influence in the previous book "Within the glass darkly". It does say that you can read the books independently but personally I think this book makes far more sense being read as the second book. As you can guess this story is classic gothic horror, my very favourite kind, and I don't think anybody with similar tastes would not enjoy the story. If like myself you know the story of Dracula well you'll be able to tell which parts come directly from Bram Stoker and which have been the authors own work. The way he has mixed the two stories together is very clever and on top of that he manages to involve Jack the Ripper as well. I feel I have repeated myself a bit too much with the review I did on "Within the glass darkly". As I've said before, if you enjoy gothic horror stories your bound to like this.

You know you've read a good story when there's so much horror filled awesomeness you don't even know where to begin in a review...Author William Gareth Evans has delivered just that with his 2nd volume in the Glass Darkly Gothic Vampire Series! The vampiric intrigue and horrors continue as General Theodore Spielsdorf continues his hunt for his Nosferatu nemesis Count Sebastian Karnstein and his evil sister, Carmilla. Little does he know his destiny and search is about to change in an epic manor, with horrific and unforeseen results...

Enter Dracula, the Nosferatu ancient who has wreaked havoc on the world for centuries. Changes are coming, and the Count is preparing his evil web of deceit and horrors. We are given a glimpse into his depraved mind; a recap of his dark family legacy and gory deeds bringing untold torturous suffering and annihilation to his subjects; his hypnotic lust that draws even the most resistant of women to him; his disdain for the human mind and spirit; and lastly, what drives his cruel, incessant actions to survive and rule over the Nosferatu and human species by any means necessary.

Author Evans brings in characters from around the world to join General Spielsdorf in his epic battle (I won't name names so as to not give away spoilers, but I am sure you will have the same 'No way!' reactions that I did...page after page). I was blown away by the intricate weave of parallel storylines masterfully detailed and elegantly related in this horrific tale. There is graphic violence and sexual undertones in this story, so be forewarned. A fabulously well done masterpiece IMO--you will not be disappointed!

I enjoyed reading this book, but I think the first one ("withing the glass darkly") is better. A great part of the book is very similar to the original "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, and sometimes I Thought that I was again reading the book written by Bram Stoker.
