. . . St. George examines a familiar landmark, provides fresh insights into the why and how of its making, and introduces the man who made it possible. . . .--Booklist, starred review. Christopher Award; Golden Kite Award Honor Book.
I thought this was a very enjoyable, brief book. In spite of its length, it felt thorough, covering aspects of geology, American and Native American history, the logistics of carving the mountain, the politics involved, and the life of the sculptor, Gutzon Borglum. All in all, enjoyable and succinct.
