The Hobgoblin vanguard has reached BrokenFang Hold and now Ashley, Kyarina, Orion, and Jodi along with their friends and allies must find a way to hold the line or lose everything they've been fighting for.
Meanwhile, Startum Ironwolf has reached the Gnome Capital city of Tulduroc and can complete his quest for the unique Battle Mage Class. Unfortunately, things aren't always as easy as we wished they would be. Star makes new friends and enemies in his search for a way to pull off the impossible.
Elsewhere, Rani has decided to take Justin's offer and try to find the hacker that ruined her life so she can clear her name. While he's given her a golden opportunity, the doing, she quickly learns, is going to be unimaginably harder than she ever thought it could possibly be.

Jason A. Cheek, author of The World and The Last Paladin Series, lives in Germany due to his current job assignment. He lives with his wife and daughter, along with their two dogs Monte and Melow. Originally from West Palm Beach, Jason was born in Florida.
Interested in martial arts, swords, archery, Dungeon & Dragons, the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronisms), reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Jason became a computer gamer after leaving the Army. Paying his own way through college while working as a waiter, he studied to become an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
Teaching himself computers and networking on his own time. Jason changed career paths, becoming a Regional Systems Administrator several years later. During this time, he played many hours of first person shooters and strategy games at LAN parties around the United States or logged into Anarchy Online and World of Warcraft leading his guilds.
Excelling in his career as an Information Technology Specialist, Jason became a Microsoft Certified Systems Security Engineer and VMware Certified Professional, furthering his knowledge by learning new technology whenever possible.
Expanding his horizons, Jason became interested in extreme sports and traveling. Finding a job that allowed him to travel around the world while working on computers, he taught himself German and Polish and met his wife Anja.
Always interested in writing, Jason began his first novel called Flight, Book One of The Last Paladin Series, in 2013 and self-published the next year in 2014. He went on to continue writing, releasing the popular series The World in 2018.
Plenty of action, few errors. Complete story arc quest in this book.
I do have a major complaint... I'm following this author, and I got no notice from Amazon. I get lots of other recommendations, but not for this author which seems really fishy to me.
I could not stomach the passage where Star agonizes over his relationship with Helgath. Ultimately ended up skipping through most of it. Frankly, if I have to agonise I can find plenty of issues IRL. Fortunately, the episode not too horribly long. Also, regarding the AI art I appreciate it. Neri and Helgath are spot on but Flyreh is not. The story suggests that she is super hot and incredibly well endowed while the AI art shows her as cute and well proportioned. A clear miss. Probably, a frontal pose will focus more -- she is an archer and archers have well developed pectorals .
This book like the others is simply amazing. I love the ideas this guy comes up with. I love the outrageous situations he puts the characters into an I love the background info. This one is great and is bringing a lot of new elements in for the future! Can’t wait for the next one, signed up as a patron!
Star and his companions delay their return with the refugees and troops so he can get his class organised , as with everything this is easier said than done but leads to some great adventures in the gnome lands.Meanwhile General Dell has to stamp hard on Stars guild mates who just don't get that he doesn't answer to them and dumb Dominic managed to get himself in a mess through his arrogance and you just know that the Rat Kin who helps him and he dumps is going to meet Star who will realise his importance and Dominic will get all grumpy again , looking forward to fourteen.
This series is great, well thought out, with a huge cast of characters. My only critique is I wish the books were longer, because I burn through them quickly. This is more following the cast with focus on the MC Star, who is battling the game, is Allies, people watching his stream, the ultra real AI, and his ex-girlfriend. While the MC is not super OP his playstyle is what makes him strong. Most playing the World are playing checkers, some are playing chess, Star is playing a whole different game altogether with his friends and Allies swept in the tide.
I always enjoy these books. I love the different areas of the World. I am immersed in the story from beginning to end. It's always an unwelcome shock when it is over. And once again I am waiting breathlessly for the next one. Please keep writing them and I will keep reading them. They are worth buying so i can re-read them. Down with the Syndicate!!!
The basis of this being a game has lost all meaning with the blatant fascism and convenient quest lines. Throwing this in for flavor is one thing, having it around every corner is repetitious and boring. The amount of details has become tedious, the series has become a boring grind.
Love you man...love ur earthy no nonsense "marine ish " style.lols...likw the way you build the world and from different pov ...please keep writing awesome ....full support to you and a big *ARCANE BLAST* to the nay sayers
I love these books. The series has been great, and I can't wait for the next book. I like that the side characters are all growing in some way along with the MC. THE world is so large, and the diversity of it all it awesome.
As usual Jason writes a compelling story. The one drawback is an appendix that accounts for 25% of the book. Whilst a list of characters is sometimes useful, at least half of that list are not in the book or even mentioned!
Story as usual is good but it moves at a glacial pace. 13 books in and less than a month has passed by. The main character hasn’t leveled since he was de leveled. If the pace doesn’t pick up not worth reading.
This series just gets better and better in my humble opinion. This is easily in my top three. They're always fun and resonate on a personal level. Jason Cheek gets better with every book he writes in this series as well.
This has been a great series and I really can't wait for the next one to come out. This series has been very well written. The level of detail describing the world and its different races and classes and history is great.
I enjoyed reading this book and I recommend this book to anyone who like LitRPG and progression type of books with lots of action and some real life tie in.
