Manufacturing Strategy: Process and Content

Rate this book
The rapidly expanding field of manufacturing strategy is acknowledged to be of vital importance both to the manufacturing industry and to schools of business and engineering. This collection of 18 papers together with editorial comment from Professor Voss presents recent research and current thinking from around the world. It has a strong focus on process and application and should be of relevance to practitioners as well as academics through its presentation of much of the new thinking in an applied way. The book is divided into five parts. The initial overview of manufacturing strategy is followed by a section focusing on the process of strategy formulation and implementation; a vital area linking theory and practice. The third part looks at manufacturing strategy in a global context, drawing lessons from the competitive strategies used in Japan and East and Western Europe. Part four brings together some recent thinking on the increasing number of tools, frameworks and approaches associated with the analysis and implementation of manufacturing strategy, including the focused factory, flexibility, and time-based competition. The final part reviews the current and future needs in research.
