Missing Stars, Fallen Sparrows takes you to the heart of discovering and loving kids with disabilities. Author and Young Life Capernaum Founder Nick Palermo reveals a powerful and rewarding ministry that's changing youth groups, churches, and leaders across the U.S. and around the "I had to write this book because I want you to meet my friends, hear their voices and know their stories! Discover these missing stars and fallen sparrows, precious not only to God, but to me and thousands of others, too." Missing Stars, Fallen Sparrows is so much more than a rationalization for inclusiveness, or a how-to guide for disability ministry. The book's core is probably best captured in the title of one its most hard-hitting - and funniest - chapters, "Be comfortable with being uncomfortable."
“Recognizing our brokenness is how we prepare so God’s glory can enter our lives” “We are not professionals in the field of disability. We are friends who enter kids’ worlds to serve and learn.” “I grew up bringing told not to stare at people with disabilities. That’s ok, but the problem then becomes not seeing them at all! We need new eyes, so we can stare, but in a brand-new way.”
Nick writes just like he talks: full of energy, wit, and wisdom. He shares honestly how he stumbled into Disability Ministry and how he had to learn to communicate and interact with people with disabilities. His stories are funny and enlightening. His work in ministry is a huge blessing to my family and to many , many others. This is truly a "must-read".
As a YoungLife leader in the San Jose area, I'm surprised how long it took me get this book. Nick is an amazing guy and great speaker/author. Using the questions and verses listed in the chapters has been a great tool in my devos. I highly recommend this book to prospective and current youth leaders regardless of field.
