Jina's on a mission to cheer up her grandmother whose best friend moved away. Jina decides to do all the things Halmoni loves, but her plans flounder. When Jina discovers the library needs volunteer readers, she thinks it could be the answer to her grandmother's friendship problem. Can Jina convince Halmoni that she's right?
In many ways this story is like most standard early chapter books: simple language, and simple plot, with short sentences, chapters, and overall length. But what stands out is that the focus is on the relationship between a girl, Jina, and her grandmother (Halmoni). Jina’s biggest concern is that her grandmother misses her best friend, who moved away. Jina sets a sweet example of considering others better than herself as she sets out to help Halmoni find new friends and activities. In addition, the story promotes literacy, cross-cultural friendships, and respect for elders.
