my friend and i used this to guide our backpacking/hiking trip through washington. it was a great guide and gave good expectations. we didn't see a lot of the wildlife mentioned but it was probably due to timing. we ended up doing the hoh, shi shi, mount storm king, and a few others. what was great is that we decided to shorten our trip in the hoh because of the rain and could quickly peruse the book for some alternatives. the description of the trail definitely helped. on our backpacking trips my friend took photos with her iphone so we wouldn't have to carry the book. i would also recommend as i think the author does, of bringing a typographical map and compass if you decide to do the more involved or less traveled hikes. the trip was AMAZING!
