André Maurois
1,086 books255 followersAndré Maurois, born Emile Salomon Wilhelm Herzog, was a French author. André Maurois was a pseudonym that became his legal name in 1947.
During World War I he joined the French army and served as an interpreter and later a liaison officer to the British army. His first novel, Les silences du colonel Bramble, was a witty but socially realistic account of that experience. It was an immediate success in France. It was translated and also became popular in the United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries as The Silence of Colonel Bramble. Many of his other works have also been translated into English (mainly by Hamish Miles (1894–1937)), as they often dealt with British people or topics, such as his biographies of Disraeli, Byron, and Shelley.
During 1938 Maurois was elected to the prestigious Académie française. Maurois was encouraged and assisted in seeking this post by Marshal Philippe Pétain, and he made a point of acknowleging with thanks his debt to Pétain in his 1941 autobiography, Call no man happy - though by the time of writing, their paths had sharply diverged, Pétain having become Head of State of the Nazi-collaborationist Vichy France.

He died during 1967 after a long career as an author of novels, biographies, histories, children's books and science fiction stories. He is buried in the Neuilly-sur-Seine community cemetery near Paris.

Весьма привлекательный сборник, состоящий из 14 коротких рассказов разных жанров, которые ясно передают пороки буржуазного общества и как они отражаются на судьбе художников. Буду оценивать отдельно, и писать несколько слов о каждом:
1.Рождение знаменитости - 10
- Что происходит с настоящими художниками, когда они хотят стать знаменитостями в современном мире. Изложено великолепно в нескольких страницах.
2.Отель Танатос - 9
- Страшная гениальность и абсурдность идеи: Хочешь совершить самоубийство безо всяких хлопот? Всего за 300 долларов в нашем суперудобном отеле!
3.История одной карьеры - 9
- Карьера иных людей представляется именно в "ничегонеделании" и наблюдании за всеми. И можно всерьез и навсегда поставить крест на карьере и успешности просто начав что нибудь делать.
4.Прилив - 9
- Когда случайность обнажает все лицемерие семейных отношений.
5.Проклятье Золотого Тельца - 9
- Деньги = неЖизнь этой пары.
6.Завещание - 9
- Коротко и ясно о молодых женах "моралистках".
7.Биография - 9
- Вот как пишутся ВСЕ биографии. Очень красиво написано о Байроне.
8.Добрый вечер, милочка - 9
- О фальши и мнимых нравственных ценностях.
9.Ярмарка в Нейи - 8
- Коротко о моральных мужьях.
10.Ариадна, сестра - 8
- Вся мерзость мыслей расчетливых жен творческого гения.
11.Фиалки по средам - 7
- Мило, но не впечатлило так, как ожидала.
12.Миррина - 6
- Когда случайно созданный персонаж приносит славу.
13.Собор - 5
- Не поняла мораль этого рассказа.
14.Муравьи - 5
- И этого тоже.
И так, общая оценка = 112/14 = 8
