DUALITY INC IS AN INTENSE SCI-FI THRILLER THAT WILL KEEP YOU TURNING PAGES LATE INTO THE NIGHT. BUY IT NOW, AND JOIN THE ADVENTURE.
NOTHING IS AS IT APPEARS.
All Joshun Godwood was looking for that morning was another case to keep the bills paid and to add a little adventure to his life. After all, that’s why he chose the life of a private investigator.
And then she walked into this life, with what appeared to be a simple missing persons case, and everything he knew and thought was true, was challenged.
NO ONE IS WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE.
With the fate of mankind suddenly thrust upon his shoulders, Joshun discover whom he can trust, and who is working against him as he struggles to avert a future that would mean the end of us all.
I was born in Toronto, Canada and have since moved around the United States and Europe, living most of my adult life in southern England, which is currently my home.
I love Science Fiction and fantasy with some of my favorite authors being George R. R. Martin, Raymond E. Feist, L. Ron Hubbard and J. R. R. Tolkien to name just a few. I grew up with heroes from Star Wars and Star Trek equally weighted (No I won't join in a debate about which is better, choosing the middle path between them, though I will mention that J. J. Abrams' remakes rock the house).
I Write in my spare time between work and my writing means a lot to me and if you appreciate it I'd love to hear about it because producing something that entertains others is the whole point really isn't it?

Tag team detective duo Joshun and Jim get into a royal mess when following up on what appears to be a routine missing person case. All of a sudden, they have to save the planet Earth, and Joshun finds himself hurled across another galaxy in a power play.
This book feels like two stories meeting into the exact middle; not unlike a parallel universe. There's Earth, then there's Merkord.
Joshun and Jim's chemistry crackle with electricity, like the young and brash up-and-comer merging his enthusiasm and impatience with the older Joshun's seasoned approach.
At the beginning we learn of the evil empire spawned by Duality Inc., which apparently has managed to convert half the Earth's adults to a vanity cloning project. Duality Inc. also has sinister ties to the other galaxy, which we learn of with relish.
Seleesha is a terrific female character - overworked, under-appreciated, but far more intelligent and capable that her supposed master.
My only beef with the novel is why the evil Empire is interested in Earth - surely, being an advanced race, they have other, better targets within their aim. But the author knows we readers are Earth-centric, so that's forgivable.
Thanks for a fun, short read that drips with sarcasm and humour, as well as some mind-bending switches of allegiance and deception.
Duality Inc. by J. Thomas Beaton is a great detective thriller with a science fiction twist. If you are looking for a quick read that is full of intrigue this is a book for you.
The author did a good job of developing the storyline, making it full of intrigue and fast paced adventure. I like all the twist and turns he put into the story, you never get bored reading. Throw in the sci-fi side of it and you will see why it is hard to put down.
I liked the way J. Thomas Beaton developed his characters. Even in this future world he has created his hero as an old gum-shoe detective. I found it easy to identify with each of his main characters.
I really enjoyed Duality Inc. by J. Thomas Beaton and I high recommend this book.
[Please note: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.]
Detective Joshun Godwood is a throw-back, an aging private investigator who rejects the miracle that the most powerful corporation in the world has for sale: transferring your consciousness into a younger body, and even splitting your personality into two independent clones. But when he agrees to help a beautiful young woman whose dual has gone missing, he will ultimately find himself on the other side of the galaxy, fighting for mankind’s survival against the evil hiding behind Duality, Inc.
Beaton has written a page-turner that also raises some interesting questions about a world in which cloning is a reality. The book could have benefited from some tighter editing, which keeps me from rating it a five, but it is a fun ride, and definitely worth a read.
I primarily review teen books--Duality Inc. is not specifically in the teen genre but the content is entirely appropriate for teens—no sex or excessive violence. As I am reading more and more young adult novels, it’s apparent that chick lit predominates and there is a marked dearth of “boy books.” I’m happy to report Duality Inc. is written from the male point of view and should a boy pick this book up, it would not disappoint! A futuristic sci fi novel, written like an old time detective story, it is wildly creative with twists and turns and surprises galore. The premise is unique and the author seamlessly takes it into unexpected directions, making it fun and entertaining. Duality Inc. is somewhat shorter than a typical novel but I enjoyed the fact that I could read it in one night—it was an exhilarating ride from start to finish!
Fast-paced, exciting book. This is the second book I have read from this author and I was not disappointed. His writing is smooth, exciting and draws the reader in, allowing them to be a part of the action, not just a bystander. Joshun and Jim, an unexpected detective team, on a routine case, come to realize that the fate of the world is hanging in the balance and a galactic adventure follows. This book spans genres with ease as it covers adventure, sci-fi and detective subjects with fast-flowing action and relateable characters. I am very excited about more work from this author as he not only manages to engage the reader, but also respects their intelligence and writes accordingly. I also appreciate how Mr. Beaton has introduced a new and interesting storyline instead of scraping the barrel for much-used ideas as most literature is these days.
Sci-fi books tend to be hit or miss for me but I liked this one. Might be because it's a novella, so it didn't drag out endlessly...or maybe it's because there weren't too many futuristic technical terms in it (even though it is set in the future). The concept was interesting and, even though it is a typical good versus evil story, I wasn't bored by it. O, and I loved the final scene. What a great way to end the book!
At the start, this book reads a bit like a sci-fi version of those old, hard-bitten private detective stories from Raymond Chandler, like The Big Sleep - there's a touch of Bladerunner about it. In my head, I pictured all the action happening in black and white, and in the rain. That's in no way a criticism, I thoroughly enjoyed the mix and thought it worked well. However, as we move further into the story that characterization slips away and it becomes more traditional sci-fi action/adventure. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but in my opinion it lost some of its individuality.
It cracks along at a good pace and there are some interesting ideas, so it's worth a read, I just didn't feel it developed its full potential.
