This is probably one of my favorite wealth books and I read plenty from Richest Man in Babylon, Think and Grow Rich, Dave Ramsey to Tony Robins. What I like about the book is that it gives you step by step advise and examples in cooking terms like the difference between a chef and a cook (A chef is an artist that pays attention to detail and makes a masterpiece while the cook just throw everything in and hope for the best). Another example I like is not being an Octopus Cook meaning not trying to do too many money making things at once.
Personally I read the book more than 10 times, review it again every few months and have a quick summary of each chapter in my personal notebook which I take along with me where in some instances I could quickly go over the whole book in less than an hour. On my first reading I spend 1 week per chapter so I could keep going back and soak in the information.
I believe the book is a great investment in the few dollars it cost and the few days it takes to read. Also had my kids to start reading this book so learn about money.
There are a lot of useful tips and I feel a lot more focused on money afterwards. It has really helped where I put my focus - by taking it off surviving with money and putting it on actually what I do love which is priceless
However, I feel like the book oversimplifies problems. Even though the author talks about her personal journey, there does seem to be a terrific lack of empathy. I'm personally not a fan of 'we need to transform guilt into anger, because anger gets things done.' This strategy doesn't allow for rational decision making, or the idea that debt can be necessary. Not everyone would have love to be a property developer, write books or go to Tony Robbins events.
Overall it is a useful reference but the reader needs to take all advice given with a pinch of salt.
Ann Wilson shows you the basic principles of how to save, invest and spend your money so you can get out of debt fast. The principles are sound, but the overall tone of the book is a bit too positive for my tastes. Still, the book contained great advice and has changed the way I handle my own money.
