This is an awesome piece of non-fiction with local allure to any one in New England. Captain Zeb was a real life captain of little notoriety today unless you're from Martha's Vineyard, but he is a character you won't forget. Take Paul Bunyan, add Yankee ingenuity, cross-eyed Romeo, and a knack for sailing in the toughest waters in the region and you get the idea. He was one of those tragic last coastal schooner captains who was phased out of a way of life by the age of steam power. Yet how he adapted to those changes is unmistakably unique. Has to be one of my all time favorite coffee table type books.

Apparently there is a dvd of this at zebtilton.com. Zeb was a renowned schooner captain with extraordinary nautical ability. In the fog he could tell what harbor he was in by tasting the salt water. (apparently each has its own unique taste) He sailed (commercially transporting logs etc) in the areas of Buzzards Bay, Nantucket Sound and the coast of New England. Cross-eyed, but powerfully strong, he was a Martha's Vineyard legend. He was married three times. The photographs alone are extraordinary.
