This was another random English find in a second hand bookstore in Japan. It was a little dry, but I found it easy to read although I only was familiar with three of the novels mentioned within it. My to-read list has increased accordingly!

Since it was published in 1988, I expected to find the ideas within this book really dated. However, I was shocked to discover that the issues with representation both within crime fiction, feminism and in general that the author described are a lot of the same issues talked about now. It's a little depressing to realise that progress has not been made. At the same time, it was really cool to see an entire chapter devoted to lesbian crime fiction and the topic given serious, academic respect. While I don't agree with everything Maureen T. Reddy put forward, she's given me a lot to think about.
