Assignment: Spy

"We crept out through the hole in the fence, and then began a melancholy march toward the main building, and more particularly, the commandant of Fornebu Airfield. Kaare and I walked side by side; the sentry with his machine gun formed our rear guard."

This true story of international intrigue and espionage ranks with the best of the great fiction to come out of World War II. From the first demolition to the last desperate escape, Olsen's exploits provide excitement, drama, and suspense.

This was a great yard sale find for $0.50, original price from Dec 1962 was $0.45.

In this action packed Memoir, Oluf Reed Olsen tells his story from WWII. In April 1940, after Germany took Poland, the media was referring to what was happening as "The Phony War." Then Germany took Denmark and from there Norway. As a 21 year old young man, Oluf and his friend were stunned with what just happened, and anxious to do something to push back against the invaders. This story goes through Oluf and his companions harrowing journey to England, for training and their return home to Norway to finally begin their fight against the German occupation until its end in May 1945.

An old used copy of this was probably the most important tool in making me a reader-- thanks Oluf!

This is my all time favorite book! A chest-thumping first hand account of espionage in Nazi occupied Norway.
