The Portal by Allen Hively

Three lives are about to get very interesting. Freddy Sanchez is a thrill seeker who will try just about anything. When he ends up in a ditch in a wrecked Porsche, Mark rescues him and takes him to his house . Once awake, Freddy realizes that some of the paintings on the wall are famous works of art and then discovers a door that Mark told him not to open. This door leads to Mark’s lab. Freddy soon discovers that Mark has created a portal that can take people back in time and his sister, Kelly is currently stuck in 17th century Key West looking for a famous wrecked ship’s treasures. Freddy has many talents and offers to go and find her and this is where the adventure begins. Once there, Freddy and Kelly decide to rescue the lost treasures from a Spanish ship that sunk in 1622 before the pirates can get to it. But they must talk their way out of situations with the military that is there and using modern equipment is not an option. While back in the 21st century, Mark has problems of his own when he opens the portal to see if Kelly and Freddy are there and is shot by a soldier from the past. Will Kelly and Freddy be able to obtain the treasure and not change the course of history? Will Mark be able to keep the portal a secret from the current world?

This first book in the trilogy is full of intrigue, excitement, romance and adventure. The historical background makes it all the more interesting and the thought provoking question of time travel and what really would happen if you changed history make this a great read!
