Rate this book
A Seeking Heart (Mountain Lakes #1)
In this tale, the life of Samantha O'Brien, a young woman running from an abusive past, intersects that of the Klaassen family of Mountain Lake, Minnesota. The loving acceptance extended to her turns her world upside-down as she learns, through them, that God doesn't care where she's been; He loves her exactly where she is. Samantha, by virtue of her fractured childhood, sees herself as less than lovable, and it is a hard battle for her to accepts that love. But when it does, it's as if a rainbow bursts through Samantha's seeking heart.
----
A Heart Surrenders (Mountain Lakes #2)
All David has ever wanted was love and security. He believes he can attain his desire by winning the heart of Josie Klassen. But Josie's love for someone else casts a shadow on David's dream, making him question if love is possible for someone like him. Can David set aside his own ideas and fears and open his heart to the one God has planned for him?

When A Heart Cries (Mountain Lakes #3)
"Their beloved little home was full of love . . . but it still felt empty"
Samantha and Adam Klaassen started married life in the cozy little home built into the hill at the back of the Klaassen family farm. When they began looking forward to their own family, they knew they would need a real house with more room.

But now the silent bedrooms in the farmhouse built with such love and hopefulness by her husband haunt Samantha's days and nights. Why does God not see her yearnings for a child and answer the nearly constant prayers? And watching her sister-in-laws joyfully welcoming new little ones into their homes while her own arms lay empty nearly does her in. Does God even listen when a heart cries so fervently and long?

This is the first time I have read a Christian series. Christian fiction series are extremely popular in our public library. I read this series because it is about a Mennonite family living in the town where I grew up - Mountain Lake, MN. There are three books in this series: A Seeking Heart; A Heart Surrenders; and When A Heart Calls. The references (and recipes) about Mennonite food like borscht, zwieback, vereneki, and cherry moos brought back memories of my childhood.

The three books are tied together by the main character Samantha. The first book tells about her childhood with an abusive father and her escape from her home into the hands of the Klassens in Mountain Lake, where she learns about the Christian faith. She is reunited with her brother in the second book and her brother "gives himself to the Lord." She suffers greatly in the third book when she cannot conceive a child. Her prayers are answered in a way she didn't expect.

These books are easy and pleasant to read. Kim Vogel Sawyer is definitely evangelizing.
