A father writes about his son's childhood disintegrative disorder and his family's attempts to help him. Nothing works. This book is sad, but I think it is honest. Sometimes nothing does work.

This story is set in the 1980s when educators knew very little of the strategies that are necessary for working with children with autism. The struggles this family endures while seeking help for their son Are truly heart-wrenching. It's impossible not to feel this family's pain and grief as they search for any method that will help. As a special educator, I know the field of education has increased the appropriate strategies to use tremendously. But nothing eases the pain of a parent who just wants a nights sleep or wants their old life back or wants their child to be cured. This book got to me
