The Treasure Seeker

Rate this book
Life and love have been strained between Rylene Shelton and her partner Kate Elliott. The economy has tanked Ry’s antique store and the pressures of money and being an ER nurse have taken much of the joie out of Kate’s vivre.

Hoping to make a few dollars and pay a bill or two, Ry lugs home purchases from an estate sale, realizing too late that she’s picked up a box the seller wanted to keep. That saying about cats and curiosity? When Ry finds a pistol in the box that saying may well come true.

If they want to survive, two women must discover that the real treasures in life aren’t measured in dollar signs in this long awaited novel from treasured storyteller Frankie J. Jones.

All About Frankie... I was born in a town so small, that rather than listing the population figure on the city limit sign, we simply listed the citizen's names. From there I joined the Army and spent three great years in Germany. It's a beautiful country that everyone should visit if given the opportunity. However, I wouldn't recommend joining the Army as a method of traveling there.
After leaving the Army, I moved to San Antonio, Texas. I was now living in a city so large that the population figure would barely fit on the city limit sign. I soon went to work for a giant telecommunication company and served a long sentence there. Now through a strange twist of events I find myself writing full-time.
Someone once told me that I should list my hobbies in order for my readers to get to know me better. Well, I'm one of those people who never met a hobby she didn't like. It's much easier for me simply to tell you that short of jumping out of a perfectly good plane, there's not much I dislike.
I live with an extraordinary woman, Martha Cabrera, extraordinary in the sense that she doesn't mind my wild never-ending string of hobbies. We love to spend free weekends at the coast, fishing. I harbor a dream of someday catching a fish that's actually bigger than my bait.
I began writing when I was a kid. In my stories, the girls kept dumping the boys and running away with each other. This was a curiosity for me, since at that time; I had no idea what a lesbian was. Thankfully, the Army corrected that lapse in my education. You can imagine my surprise when I learned that not only was it all right to write these stories, but a place called Naiad Press would actually pay for them.
Naiad Press published my first three novels: Rhythm Tide, Whispers in the Wind and Captive Heart. I moved over to Bella Books 2001. (from the author's website)

Frankie J. Jones has also written a number of books as Megan Carter.

My first Frankie J. Jones and I really enjoyed the read. A tale combining a failing relationship, a murderous hunt for 80 year old loot and the awakening of a physic talent for finding. Definitely a 4.5.

The book is well written and, of course well edited - by the mistress of editing Katherine V Forrest no less. It flows off the page and into your imagination like a good book should, no thought process required.

Rylene, her family - including her long dead great grandmother - and the other major players are well drawn, three-dimensional and extremely rounded characters. They take on a life of their own and stay in your mind. Kate is less likeable and maybe we wish Officer Matthews played a bigger role – but then that leaves us a tantalising opportunity for a come back if Ms Jones produces a sequel.

And the twist in the ‘normal’ tale, of Ry’s new-found talent for finding, definitely leaves the author with a huge opportunity to make this into a series - it would definitely get my vote. Ry’s talent is the perfect vehicle for all sorts of adventures and no doubt “The Treasure Seeker” cum do-gooder would have some interesting romantic opportunities along the way.

Thoroughly enjoyable reading, a great story, likeable and believable characters – what’s not to love?

This was an interesting read because there were interesting twists and turns that this reader did not see coming. I really appreciated the supportive and fun family. What does one do when their relationship is not as solid as it use to be? Rylene Shelton and her partner Kate Elliott are challenged with just that. What they do about it provides an interesting story plot.
