Mahogany is a beautiful young girl being raised with her mother in Los Angeles, CA. Her beauty has caused her to win countless pageants, walk in fashion shows and also model clothes in numerous magazines. From day one, her mother instills in her, how beautiful she is and that anyone who tells her different is just hating. Mahogany finally has her big break; modeling a new clothing line, for major music producer Galaxy. This shoot turns into a blessing and a curse; she meets the love of her life. And is also introduced to the term "industry whore". Life for her is never the same after this shoot. When tragedy strikes, Mahogany has to move to Richmond, Ca with her biological father and grandmother whom she has never met. Living in Richmond, is completely different from the life she had in LA. Here she is exposed to the "Hood Life". There's no glitz and glamour and major stars walking up and down the streets. She becomes stressed and began to feel that with living here, there is no way she will make it big, in the entertainment industry that she and her mother worked so hard for. After being casted by a neighbor for a local music video, she is brought back into the limelight that she loves. Working in a completely different atmosphere, she finds herself breaking many of the rules her mother had begged her never to break. When its all said and done, she's left with a big decision, continue on the road that she's on, hoping for stardom. Or give up on her dream.

Book review: Model Behavior by Sequaia Reed

Bailey Montage didn’t have a successful career in the entertainment industry, but that doesn’t stop her from making sure that her daughter Mahogany does…and she will do it by any means necessary. Bailey knows better than anyone that the industry can take the innocent and turn them into heathens, so she takes whatever steps she has to in order to protect Mahogany; while teaching her how to have self-respect, professionalism, and confidence…things that one teaches a daughter, but should also follow for themselves. Mahogany eventually gets the break she needs, but just as things are looking up, tragedy hits and she has to step out of the limelight. She eventually gets another chance to shine, but will she remember everything her mama told and warned her about…
Man oh man! Let me start off by saying that any and everything you heard about the entertainment industry is spelled out in this book…so well, that if you read Superhead’s book and was not a believer, you would be if you read this. Mama Montage had the looks, poise, and confidence that a model should have, but she didn’t have the needed self-respect to not fall victim to the BS…so unfortunately, she had to live vicariously through her daughter. She was strong and the ultimate “B”, but she was a parent who would die for their child. The author captured the true meaning of the mother/daughter/bestie friendship, but it is just sad that towards the end, she couldn’t save Mahogany from herself…and as the reader, you will be mad, but don’t trip…there is a part 2….
