From Kazakhstan to Senegal to Hong Kong, from the 1970s to the mid-21st century, these early stories by one of America's most unpredictable writers examine the hyperconnected transcultural world of today. They are a celebration of M. M. Bakhtin's "Truth is not born nor is it to be found inside the head of an individual person, it is born between people collectively searching for truth, in the process of their dialogic interaction."
I read the book because I got interested in checking out the works of Sheldon J. Pacotti as he wrote one of my favorite videogames with Deus Ex (2000). This one being about stories he wrote before he penned the game and I overall liked them! My favorite part is that he really seems to be interested in thinking about the different perspectives people all over the world have. Like telling a story about a muslim woman in Iran or about some old russian guy that was really linked with the history of the place he inhabits. Cool stuff. My favorite ones were "Evil Spirits Travel in Straight Lines" and "Incantation". The last one really made me emotional.
