Enjoyed this course as far as I completed it (up to the end of Unit 4), but sadly I don't currently have enough time to be able to work through it in the time allowed for library loans. Hopefully the library will still have this set available later in the year - or maybe I can pick up a second-hand copy somewhere.

I like that it adapts words into the Roman alphabet. This meant I could focus on learning basic vocabulary and sentences without yet having to worry about tackling Japanese scripts. They are introduced in a later chapter, but I also have a separate Teach Yourself book on that aspect, so can have a look in future.

The CD is good, both in terms of helping with pronunciation and providing listening practice. I would recommend that if you can find this course, try and get the book and CD edition.

By the end of Unit 4, I'm already able to understand and create simple sentences about myself, as well as working with a good range of numbers, calendar etc. There's plenty of cultural information provided, which is both helpful and genuinely interesting.

As I said, I wish I could keep this set for longer, but for now it has to go back to the library. I shall hope to continue my studies with it later in the year. It's certainly shown me that Japanese is *not* as intimidating or difficult as I had previously assumed.
