A Handy Reference to an Important British Aircraft Firm

It is amazing how much one can pack into 72 pages. This skinny little volume is hardly a coffee table book. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding reference guide to every model and sub-type built by the Short Brothers, and interesting it most certainly is. After an overview of the Short Brothers firm (Shorts), the book chronicles each type, from the Short Biplane No. 1 of 1909, to its final design, the S.D.3-60 (Shorts 360) of 1981. Each aircraft is illustrated with a small but detailed black-and-white photograph and is accompanied by an informative paragraph. Appendices offer full technical specifications, production history, and UK certification dates. And, yes, those glorious flying boats, from the fabled Empire to the mighty Sunderland to the luxurious Sandringham are a sight to behold! An apology is due: even with the good prices this book now commands, I am holding onto my old 1983 copy.
