Michelle and Gabriel begin the book in a swarm of romance! The book picks up right where it left us off, and also explains what we previously read in Destine. Michelle is the warrior of Heaven and Gabriel is her Watcher. They fall in love, deeply.
Now that Michelle and Gabriel find her mother and her aunt, and the previously weakened Cami, they almost 'forget' about the problems that haunt them. Alex, aka Satan, is still after them and lurking about. The book gives us a hero in Michelle, one that all girls can look up to. Michelle will stop at nothing to save those she loves, even Gabriel. There is turmoil, loss, sadness and strength that leaves readers biting their nails in anticipation. I am already wanting book 3!

As life goes, perfect moments don't last forever. Sooner or later, reality or life gets in the way and spoils things. All we can hope for is that we recognize the perfection in the moment and drink it all in while we can.

Talk about rip my heart out and stomp all over it!!! Oh my gosh!!! This book was a complete and utter roller coaster of emotions. I had periods of being so deliriously happy with the way things were going and then I would jump to the complete opposite end of the scale and feel like my heart was breaking!!

Book two in the Watchers Trilogy, Devoted, picks up right where book one ended. Gabriel and Michelle are on their way to once again meet up with Michelle's mum and Cami. There are still two horsemen to deal with and that thought is never far from Michelle and Gabriels mind. But in between all of the stress of that, they still manage to find time for each other. Time to enjoy the beauty of their love. And Devoted took their love to a whole new level.

I felt as if I could drown in him. submerge myself in his smell, his taste and be completely swept away. I needed more, longed to be as close to him as physically possible.

I loved the first book in this series and I absolutely loved this one. I'm not sure which one I would pick as my favourite because both were equally as good as the other, but Devoted gives us a much more mature and grown up set of characters. I suppose when you are told that you are the defender of humanity and are dealing with the things that these guys have had thrown at them, then there really is no other option but to grow up. Devoted really highlighted the strength of the characters for me.

This whole book was so fantastic but there were a few chapters that were so freakishly good that I had my heart in my mouth while I was reading them. There is no doubting that Katherine Polillo is a superb author. She writes in such a way that you can't help but be drawn to the characters and the story.

Devoted covers a fairly large timeframe and there were periods when it jumped months at a time and at one stage it actually moved forward a few years, but I never felt that at any time the story was missing anything.

Oh my god that ending!! The second last chapter... I had some serious goosebumps running up my arms and im pretty sure that the hair on the back of my neck was standing on end. So freaky!!! Argh!!! I can't wait to see where the author is going to take us next!!! And the last chapter set up everything in readiness for the next book. And I need it now!!!

If you haven't had the absolute pleasure of reading this series, then you really need to rectify that today. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do!!

Staring into those gray eyes, I swore I saw it all. I saw the beginning, the end, and the purpose of my life all wrapped up in that one perfect moment.

5/5 Heart wrenching Stars!!

Okay, so I know that this book isn’t out yet, which really sucks because I WISH everyone could read this right now! If you have read Destine, book one in this trilogy, then you know why this book is so sought after right now. Guess what? I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this one! That’s right! I felt like a kid in a candy store and gobbled it up.
Devoted picks up shortly after where Destine left off. Two horsemen of the apocalypse down, two more to go. Now, since this book is not out yet, and I would hate to spoil it for everyone, I’ll be quite vague with this review.
I had moments where I squealed with happiness, others where I wanted to cry my eyes out (one of those ugly cries, if you get what I’m saying), and others where I wanted to throttle the author for torturing me! Well, in the end it was worth it.
Oh, and speaking of the end...WOW is all I can say. I think Devoted has one of the BEST cliff hanger endings that I’ve read in a long time. I am STILL thinking about the book even now. The story will be floating in my head until the next book is done. That’s a sure sign of a GREAT book.
So, since you can’t technically go out and buy this book yet, I will ask that everyone add this book to their TBR list on Goodreads. Add some jazzy tags. Show some love to this fabulous author. If you aren’t already a fan of Katherine Polillo, then become one on Facebook. I know you’ll fall in love with this series as much as we did.
Oh...one last final word...This will be released JULY 2013 (Date is tentative, so be on the lookout)

4.5/3.0. I was really conflicted on how to rate this one. If you asked me to rate the first 80%, I’d give it a 4.5. The last 20% was a 3.0 to me. That averages to a 3.75.

Plot:
Michelle and Gabriel have spent the summer traveling in search of Alex and the remaining horsemen. They head to Michelle’s aunt’s house, where Cami and Michelle’s mom are staying. Everything is great until they get there, and then multiple tragedies strike.

Characters:
Michelle has toned down her snarkiness some, and her love for Gabriel has grown stronger in the months that have passed since the end of Destine. She still tends to act without thinking, and she makes the cliché mistake of thinking that she needs to separate herself from everyone to keep them safe. We know how that always turns out.

Gabriel is still Gabriel, and I love him for it. Cami is has grown from the typical boy crazy, energetic, blonde best friend into a strong, smart, independent woman. Michelle’s mom has even come out of her funk (although no reason was really given). Michael returns a couple of times. He and the Ophanim have definitely mastered the art of being cryptic.

On the evil side, Mr. Black returns with a vengeance. We only see Alex a couple of times, and he is totally skeezy and creepy.

We also meet a couple of new characters. Michelle’s aunt (Karen? I can’t even remember her name) is nice, but somewhat forgettable. However, the other character, Ben, definitely made a lasting impression. Dubbed Zippy by Michelle, Ben is a geeky computer hacker who falls in love with Cami, and he is so sweet. He’s not there long, but while he is … swoon!

Writing:
I can’t believe it’s possible, but Devoted had even more editing issues than Destine. Aaargh!

The Bottom Line:
There is an event at the very beginning that I’m sure will polarize readers, but if you can get past it, MOST of the rest of the book is awesome. I hadn’t planned on reading it all in one sitting, but it was so compelling that I couldn’t put it down. In fact, I felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack.

Unfortunately, after staying up until 1:30 to finish the last 20%, I was left thinking WTF? I realize that in reading the book, we have to acknowledge that we have entered a fantasy world, but even in that realm, the things that happened were totally unbelievable. Don’t get me wrong…. I love a happy ending as much as the next girl. But in this case, it was like Polillo took square pegs and placed them in round holes, and we readers were just supposed to believe they fit. To make matters worse, we flash forward to the near future, and realize that there isn’t really a happy ending yet, and it’s going to be an uphill battle before there will be.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

*Note I do not recommend reading this book or this review if you are not familiar with the story in book 1)

Let me start by saying I really loved book one in this series (Destine – Read my review HERE) and so when I got the opportunity to read an ARC of book two I jumped at the chance.

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 ended with Michelle and Gabriel together but knowing that there are still 2 horsemen out there to be defeated. Unfortunately the first 100 pages or so is ALL pretty much about them being together and that just didn’t work for me. For me it was a bit too racy to be a real YA book and yet not racy enough to be a NA story. For me it just didn’t click although I am sure that there are a lot of fans from the first one that really loved all of that.

For me it did improve once it got back to the whole Apocalypse storyline although it didn’t grip me the same way that the first one did. It was nice to see Cami back involved in everything but over all this really felt like a “filler” book to me with some details that we are obviously going to need for book 3 (the final installment in the trilogy) and from how this book ended that is going to be one I want to read very much.

As with the first one the story takes a very unique approach to some well known mythology and I really appreciate that and the last part of this book really picked and made me a little frustrated that the author chose to end it there. Clever though, because despite not falling in love with this chapter I definitely want to see where it ends!

Destine, Book one, was a great book, but Devoted had all the action. Started where she left high school. Michelle, main character and humanity’s savior, has no idea what the future holds for her and her family. Gabriel, Michelle's Watcher, becomes a big part in Michelle's life. With Antichrist just around the corner watching and waiting. Michelle's friend, Cami, has to keep an eye out for her own safety. Michelle's mom is returning to her normal self everyday that goes by. Life is as normal as it gets. Michelle makes a decision that will change everything. Trying to keep her Gabriel and family away from danger. She decides to take on the Antichrist herself leaving Gabriel behind to sleep. Michelle makes the worst mistake one can make. From that day on, her life takes a turn for the worst possible way. Michelle goes into deep depression. Cami is there to help her through it. The Antichrist makes an appearance to Cami. Let's just say it was not a joyful visit, leaving Cami afraid and alone. It's time for Michelle to comfort her friend and see her through it. Then a miracle happens. Michelle has a reason to live for. Satan will not come to destroy her again. She will fight for what is hers. More bad news comes her way. Michelle doesn't believe what she is hearing. She doesn't believe it to be true. A few years go by and everything is the way things are suppose to be. Cami finds love. And she has all she can ask for.....Till the Antichrist comes back...she will be ready! With Satan lurking in the shadows waiting and watching, no one is safe!

“My heart shattered…I let out a choked sob that hardly expressed my feelings . I wanted to wail, to scream, but my throat and voice refused…the noise that left my throat didn’t encompass the Earth shattering pain I felt. My chest was tight, so tight it felt hard to breathe. I began to pant in my panic, I was so dizzy I collapsed to the ground as the world around me spun…tears run from my eyes…and darkness consumed me.” Excerpt from Devoted by Katherine Polillo

For me the sign of a great book is the emotions it erupts in you as you read it. I literally felt Michelle’s emotions as I read Devoted. My throat tightened. My pulse quickened. My breaths came in short shallow bursts. I held tightly as I was washed over in the intensity the author was able to translate into words. Katherine Polillo is a true artist with her words.

For those of you familiar with the series and have read Destine, Devoted picks up immediately where Destine ended. Having defeated 2 of the four horseman and with Came and her Michelle’s mom safely at Aunt Karen’s, Michelle and Gabriel strike out to continue her quest. Now for those of you who remember the action packed Book 1, let me tell you that Devoted is more focused on the story of Michelle and Gabriel. Trust me. In the end the story comes full circle and you will definitely have an “aha” moment.

I really loved this book. I recommend reading the first book in the trilogy first. If you don't you will be pretty lost in the second one. I read the two books in two days. They are quick reads because they keep you interested and wanting to see what happens next. It is a romantic story between a high school senior and her guardian angel of sorts. She must save humanity from the apocalypse. There are a lot of twists and turns along the way, and the author really gets into the emotion of the characters. I felt the Michelle's (the main character)love, loss, and rage throughout the two books. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy reading about angels, fallen angels, and the fate of humanity. It has biblical references throughout, which I though is pretty cool.

Devoted by Katherine Polillo is the 2nd book in The Watcher's Trilogy. Since it
continues right after book 1, Destine, ended, I definitely recommend that you read
Destine before Devoted.
The book is well-written and edited. The plot flows smoothly and has lots of exciting
twists and turns. Some of the twists totally blew me away - especially the ending....but
I feel like I can't give any details in this review because it would give too many
spoilers.
I loved this book and I can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy.
