Indians in Mirror View of a Common Man Part I: Indian Politics, Bureaucracy and Governance

Rate this book
Indian governance has lacked in public oriented administration. Visionaries, the politicians, and the administrators seem to be working for self rather for the public. National interest appears last thing in their mind. Bureaucratic attitude further buttressed by egoistic mind set has resulted in non- performance in all fields. Prime Minister of the country gets nominated rather being elected. The parliament, the legislature, and the governments are always ‘on the anvil’ leading to instability. Corruption is rampant. Politico-bureaucratic combine is highly corrupt. Reforms in the political, administrative and legal system, and in the devolution of power are some of the burning issues but the political parties find no time to deliberate on such issues as the governments of the day remain bogged down in the balancing act to retain power.

Indian culture may have a lot to give to the world but remains shackled for some reason. Religion plays a dominant role in shaping the culture of a society but Indian cultural ethos remains subdued with religious divide.

Scientific development in the country has been tardy despite vast infrastructure. Bureaucratic mind set among the scientists is clearly adversarial to developing scientific fervor.

Healthcare delivery in rural areas is far from satisfactory. To top it the government encourages privatisation and insurance based healthcare which tends to escalate the healthcare cost. Out of pocket expense on healthcare and percentage of people who cannot afford healthcare with the present escalating costs has been going up.

How does a common man see all this and feels about is what has been discussed in the book? Since different aspects has been discussed the book in its second revised edition published by the author it has been presented in five parts where one can pick a chapter that interests him.
