Only a couple of weeks ago Devin was an average American boy looking forward to summer vacation with his family. Now he is under the control of a wicked man named Marko, who intends to make him fight as a gladiator. A sport that Devin thought died with the Roman Empire. What Devin doesn't know is that he has what it takes to survive. Marko, however, notices it immediately. He can tell that Devin is a survivor and will fight to his last breath. That is why he chooses to train him as his lead gladiator. Even his fellow slaves can see he is someone to follow and respect. As always however, with greatness comes jealousy and hate. Even though most of his fellow slaves look up to him, there are several that hate and despise him. Where does Devin's journey take him? Into hell and back, but just as gold must be refined so must the human soul. The real question is whether or not Devin will survive the refining process.
It is a good read. It keeps you on your toes wondering what's going to come of Devin. I enjoyed it a lot. If you haven't read it yet you should. You can get it through amazon.
this book took some turns that I wasn't expecting that kept it very interesting to read. I really like the characters and the depth in which you get to know them in a very short time. I can't wait to read the second book!!
