This book is my journey, from listening to the music my older brother listened to in the mid-1950s to working with bands and entertainers from the '60s to the '80s. It is filled with stories regarding bands and entertainers I worked with, managed, and knew. I learned a lot of lessons over the years, from some very high-level entertainment businesspeople and artists that helped and inspired me in today's business world. I hope you enjoy the book.
A rocking good read for anyone who has ever dreamed of getting an insider's look at a day in the life of a rock and roll tour manager. Ed Kleinman's account of his years as a roadie turned manager is filled with the kinds of details you always wanted to know. Was John Lennon a good guy (yes, and he sometimes got drunk and had to be dragged back to the Dakota); do egos really tear bands apart? (like you have to ask?); are naked women really a big part of rock and roll (again, duh!).
At times I wished there were more juicy details. But I understand that Ed doesn't want to burn bridges-- which is really the take home lesson of Joint Venture: do your job, keep a cool head and work, work, work your ass off. I look forward to more tales from Ed's rock and roll archive in the sequel.
