Haddiya Price woke with a premonition that she was going to have one of those days that turned her life upside down. She would gladly hide under the covers until the monster of a day passed, but life didn’t work that way. It came barreling in and snatched the covers from her head and kicked her out of bed. Her estranged husband Weiland Osbeorn was back in her life thrusting her into a tumultuous game of intrigue and mystery that centered around a crime her father said he hadn’t committed. As much as she hated being dragged back into her father’s web of lies and deceit, dealing with unresolved feelings for Weiland, and a whole host of complications that come along with one of those days, Hadi knew if she didn’t get a handle on the mess life had dropped in her lap, she might not have many more days to come.
Like most great superheroes (or super-villains, depending on who’s telling the story) I live a double life. By day I'm a mild-mannered crusader for justice (or nefarious deeds, depending on who’s telling the story) and by night an indestructible creator of prose (or pathological liar, depending on who’s telling the story) while munching on my favorite cookies—oatmeal raisin. A native West Coaster who hails from the sunny state of California I have loved the romance genre ever since I convinced my dad it was required reading when I was eleven. I believe love shouldn’t have a color code and strive to create stories that represent that belief.
Fire and Ice was a good book. Perhaps not an extraordinary one, but still a good one.
The writing style is smooth, easy to read, and it matches the fast, active pace of the story. The plot does have some great ideas, with a few nice twists and turns that left me breath-taken. There wasn't any inconsistency, illogical action or incoherence, which are things I really don't like in this genre. Although I wasn't expecting some of the most fantasy elements, the world was well-built and easy to understand. The characters are very likeable, very human (even if they're not), and it was sweet to watch the romance unfold between the two MC. Judy is quite the character, and she had me from the beginning. It's rare to see a child in this kind of books, and she was a welcome addition.
So it was a good book... but not long enough to my taste, hence the 3 stars rating. There were so many good ideas, and I felt like I just had a small taste before it was over. I'm a lover of long, detailed books. I would've like a longer journey, something with more depth and feeling. Don't get me wrong, it was a good one, but I felt like a lot of the potential wasn't used enough.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
