Published in the 1990s, it is out of date in regard to both modern content and modern approaches of studying other cultures, I don't recommend this edition, though later editions of this series may be better. Particularly at issue are some of the assignments which lead students in the direction of multiculturalism that was prevalent in the 1980s and 1990s, but led to cultural appropriation and other cultural sensitivity problems.
This book series is aimed at a middle/high school level, and as such is very basic and broad sweeping in coverage of artists and time periods. For the most part, it does a decent job contextualizing historical events that gave rise to art movements, although I was left scratching my head at the claim that peace prevailed during the counterreformation. There were other minor errors, but nothing quite that egregious.
At its best, the book is delightfully filled with an abundance of image-to-text ratio, as any good text should be.
