The Pony express days are numbered and jobs are scarce as Clay Roswell is told, but perhaps he could try asking Jack Casement about a job. His is hiring for the new future the express riders replacement, the telegraph wire. Plague by thefts, Indians, the trail itself, Clay has his hands full and his mind keeps wandering to thoughts of Kitts, Jacks daughter. This was a quick and easy read, and a very good one. Holmes is a Spur winner with many stories to his credit.
Fun easy read. It's the ending of the Pony Express Trail and the beginning of the telegraph. Through a series of events Clay Roswell ends up working to put in the new telegraph line. But mystery is involved as some men die and supplies go mixing. And of course there is a lovely lady on the side. Typical western but still lots of fun!
"A 1950's style Western with all of the predictability and stereotypes, but somehow it still gets to you. This one was about the completion of the transcontinental telegraph and the end of the pony express." from a review on Library Thing
