Jenifer Jernigan

She fell in love with writing in grade school when she wrote her first story - a spinoff of Jane Eyre. Since then, she's penned novels set in Regency and Victorian England, and the Gilded Age.

When being introduced to this book, it was described to me as a Bible study + book. Two of my favorite things combined!
The author guides you through a verse by verse study of Ephesians. But it's not a typical "telling" you what the truth is, but a wonderful "showing" and allowing the revelation of truth to unfold through discovery. The author helps you to explore each verse’s meaning through original Greek definition of words, different bible translations, and supporting scriptures. It's like looking at scripture through a magnifying glass and being able to see things you hadn't seen before.
I also like that the author shares examples of her weaknesses. By humbling herself, God was given all the glory in this wonderful piece of work.
If you find reading the Bible difficult at times, struggle to see how God sees you, or want to understand what He has done to secure your future, give Dive Deeper a try. I feel blessed by having completed the study. I never knew Ephesians had so much to teach me. Now these truths have become alive to me instead of just being words on a page.

I love the book of Ephesians so I was really excited to see what Jennifer Jernigan had to say about it in her contribution to the InScribed Collection: Dive Deeper - Finding Deep Faith Beyond Shallow Religion.
In this study of Ephesians, DIVE stands for define, investigate, visualize and embrace. I love this approach! I really need things like this when studying the Bible. It gives me tools to utilize and a directive to follow instead of blindly diving it. I think it helps to have a goal when starting to study a book of the Bible and this gives you that.
If you follow all her directions, this really is a deep study into the book of Ephesians. There are lots of opportunities to look up verses and take notes right within the section. I like this approach because it keeps it all together in one place instead of flipping back and forth and answering questions at the end like a lot of studies do. This has you dive in throughout!
This definitely wasn't an "easy" read but a thorough study into Ephesians and like most things, you will get as much out of it as you put into Dive Deeper - Finding Deep Faith Beyond Shallow Religion. The potential reward for doing so is immeasurable.

I'm not sure who the intended audience of this is, but I was really off-put by the casual and informal style of writing and couldn't even remotely take the study seriously. While I don't think a book needs to by hyper-formal, overly-academic, or stuffy in order to be an in-depth and approachable Bible study, this felt like it was an over "correction" to that kind of book and swung far in the other direction. As a result, it comes across as rather shallow rather than deep. In the abstract, there are certainly solid truths, useful information, and helpful tools in the book, but it's hidden under so much fluff, flowery writing, and (what feels like) her attempts to be buddies with the reader, that I couldn't even get through it. I hope that others find this style and approach useful and helpful, but it didn't work for me.

Dive Deeper, Finding Deep Faith Beyond Shallow Religion by Jenifer Jernigan is a bible study helper with dive meaning (to define, investigate, visualize and embrace) the scripture. Jenifer begins with the book of Ephesians. Ms Jernigan is a preacher's daughter but it took time for her to apply biblical principles to her own life. She shares with the readers how to make the Bible come alive for them. This is an important read for those needing bible study tips. It is an excellent choice for the Inscribed Collection.

This book is amazing. You can not dive into it and the Word without being changed. God's Word is powerful and alive, and this author engages you and requires you to be responsive. Great stuff!
