The Resource Handbook for Academic Deans

Rate this book
From the American Conference of Academic Deans comes the third edition of the handbook written for and by academic deans. Since the publication of the second edition, higher education has changed significantly and as a result, so has the role of the dean. This new edition addresses the work of a dean, from building a relationship with the president to deciding when to leave an institution. Many of the changes to the "Handbook" are based on input and surveys from ACAD members about what issues are most important to them.

Every article in this book has been valuable for my new work. It took me a month to read but I have enjoyed each section of articles (Becoming a Dean, Roles and Responsibilities, What a Dean Does, Developing Faculty Excellence and Student Success). Each article was written by a different senior administrator in higher education. The content in curriculum development articles, strategic planning, and those that addressed faculty evaluation and means of improving teaching will certainly be used. I particularly enjoyed the reminder to use SWOT strategy (strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats) for vision work. Well done Editors for American Conference for Academic Deans! See you at the national conference and I have an idea for an article!
