Young Simba just can't wait to be king-- and with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa, the cub grows into a brave lion. Get set for action, adventure, and lots of fun with this full-color retelling of Disney's blockbuster "The Lion King" "From the Trade Paperback edition."
All this is is an introduction to the Lion King characters. Eh. It's part of a set for young children, so I guess it works to indoctrinate them, but it's nothing as a book.
Book #56 for 2018 GenreLand: August - Cat on the Cover My Personal Reading Challenge (Summer): - A book set on a different continent - A book you picked based on its cover Better World Books: A book set in Africa
I feel kinda bad using this for actual challenge prompts because not only was it really short, it was kinda lame. Sure, it's a board book, so how much complexity can I reasonably ask for? But this is so lacking in actual story elements that I have to think it's a plain old cash grab aimed at parents who don't have the time/energy/inclination to engage with their tots with real kiddie-lit and hope to plop them down in front of an endless stream of Disney videos instead.
I've never actually watched any version of The Lion King, but considering how many people I know who adore it or at least have warm, fuzzy memories of it, and considering the vehemently negative reactions of others in the room while this was being read aloud at GenreLand, I presume that it has a respectable amount of entertainment value. This artifact does not.
