Thor and Leona were a happily married couple from Texas. Well, they were from Texas before the alien raiders captured them and converted Thor into a werewolf. Leona is just a little too feisty to let a little thing like her husband being turned into a monster get in her way. Seeking the help of an international cast, including the resolute Commander Gupta from India, they battle for survival and make the aliens wish they had left Earth alone. Add in lots of coffee, telepathy, star ships, battles, explosions and many, many more werewolves, and you get one fantastic adventure!
JS Rowan is a writing team who are both military veterans. We have been married for thirty years, though it seems much longer! Just kidding. JS stands for Jim and Sharon.
When we are not busy writing, we are thinking up new and unusual technologies--some of which are in this book. We are working on the second Jupiter Fleet novel, called "Too Soon to Mars", which starts six months after "Werewolves Don't Purr."
We are big fans of all kinds of science-fiction, and yes--that includes Star Trek. We have even been known to attend the occasional Comic-Con or Fan Expo. Jim's favorite SF author is Robert A. Heinlein (keeping it old school), and Sharon's favorites are Jim Butcher, John Ringo and Lois McMaster Bujold.
I loved this book! The first science fiction book by JS Rowan is a rollicking, blast-filled adventure that takes place over 351 pages of non-stop action. In fact, while I was reading it I was scanning back in my mind to the last the last time I enjoyed a book this much, and I went back to the first book of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. And the time before that was the first book of the Lord of the Rings. And like these two great series of books I was equally hooked within the first few pages. Instead of the Land, or Middle Earth, this tale takes place on our own Earth, in the future, where we are greeted by a changed landscape of alien invaders. After trying to avoid capture, our heroes succumb to the inevitable, where the story expands to the larger map contained within solar system. JS Rowan then continue to take us on a marvellous trip, full of unusual creatures and endearing characters, that are (like in Tolkien and Donaldson's stories) fictional yet real at the same time. The action in Werewolves Don't Purr is fast paced, the situations are tension-packed, and the character dialogue is more often than not laugh-out-loud funny. The science is believable. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we find out in the future that most of the science-fiction in the book turns out to become practical science, the trademark sign of the best of the best of science fiction writers. I'm grateful that JS Rowan, are writing a second book and that "Too Soon to Mars" is on its way. I am eager for the next invitation into the reality of these loveable and interesting characters, navigating treacherous situations (and the inherent dangers of outer space), while all the time seeming to have a lot of fun in the process. I am patiently (okay maybe not that patiently) waiting for their second book to find out what is in store for us next. And I have a good feeling that there will be many more than two books to satisfy my craving for the stories of werewolves who playfully express their "inner pup".
This is a fast and furious tale of epic proportions! I cannot wait to see where the Jupiter Fleet takes all us mere telepathic humans, along with our werewolf partners as we explode on the galactic scene. JS Rowan, please write the new additions to the series ASAP and keep them coming. Hopefully this storyline will grow for years to come. I would tell you more but I do not want to steal any of the excitement from you personally reading this rollicking thrill ride of a book. The short lead-in description basically happens in the first 5 pages and is quickly surpassed by the unending action and adventures when the Earth humans, newly created Earth werewolves, and alien werewolves team up to fight intergalactic slavers. Read this book as soon as you can and beg the authors to please hurry up on the sequels.
I really enjoyed this book. Aliens converting humans into werewolves. A refreshing spin on werewolf lore. Heroes, Heroines, Humans, Aliens and Werewolves galore. Humans and werewolves fighting together? Imaginative and humorous!! A thrill ride through bombs and asteroids, time and space. I couldn't put the book down. I now wait anxiously for the sequel, What will the author think of next?!!
Werewolves Don't Purr is a very good read.I found the book holds your interest throughout the story. A good mixture of drama and humour. It makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. when Grandma wants to become a werewolf to be with Grandpa and they are playing in the hall shows the author's romantic side. I can't wait to see what the next book brings.
Finally read this and it is awesome! Just the right amount of action, good plot, space battles, and scientifically produced werewolves. The main protagonists are both older people with grown children, which is unusual but refreshing. No explicit sex, but the occasional allusion to sexual activities between married people.
I remember I got this one because the title intrigued me and I am very glad I finally got around to reading it. If you like evil aliens, heroic humans and werewolves you won't go far wrong in taking time out to read this one. Thor and Leona are wonderful people and the author shows them with faults and all. The secondary characters are as richly filled in as the main ones and the story was wonderful. I feel this would make a great tongue in cheek, action, science fiction film very easily as the writing is so descriptive I felt almost like I was watching it on a screen. I have now decided that when the book funds allow I MUST get book two in this fun and action packed series.
