Francisco Manuel de Melo (Lisbon, November 23, 1608 - Lisbon, August 24 or October 13, 1666) was a Portuguese writer, politician and military, also belonging to the Spanish literary, political and military history.
Historian, educator, moralist, play writer, poet and epistolographer, he was most representative of the Baroque peninsular literature. He devoted himself to poetry, theatre, history and epistolography. Having published about two dozen works during his life, he was also the author of other works published posthumously. He joined the Baroque style and themes with his own cosmopolitanism and gallant spirit, typical of the aristocracy from which he came. Among his most important works, we find the moralist text of the "Carta de Guia de Casados" (Married Charter Guide) or the play "Fidalgo Aprendiz" (Apprentice Nobleman).
