Rae Spencer lives in the beautiful Penns Woods, a country girl at heart, she loves to read and write romance, fantasy, and poetry. She enjoys being out in nature and loves the beauty to be found but her reclusiveness, eccentricity, and dry sarcastic sense of humor gets her in trouble at times. Rae calls herself the ‘black sheep’ of her family, being very different in personality and looks, and relishes the fact. She has a fetish for rock and roll especially bass players, peanut M&M’s, history, genealogy, and coffee.

Rae’s idea of exercise is a few swings of her hula-hoop, dancing around the living room when alone, walking up and down the stairs to do laundry, and taking care of her granddaughter. As an avid dog lover, she supports various pet related causes, and has three dogs: an AmStaff, Border Collie, and Pomeranian. Starting over in multiple aspects of her life, Rae is pursuing her dreams and has released four novella’s “Beyond A Proposition”, “For Everything”, “Only You Butterfly”, “Claiming Her Tomorrows”, and a short story “Cigány Flame” included in the anthology “Indulgence”, all released by Lazy Day Publishing.

Rae believes her love of historical romances played a large role in helping her pass her High School History classes and for cultivating her love of History. She hopes those who read her stories loose themselves for a little while in the story and leave the dredge of reality behind them forgetting their troubles, if only for a few moments.

You and Me, Forever is a story about Jake and Cathy, two people who have been in a long term relationship for over ten years. Jake is the bassist in the local up and coming band, Ten and Five, while Cathy has been supporting Jake's musical dreams and his band since the beginning. You would think when the band is about to get their big break that Jake and Cathy would be excited for what the future holds. Unfortunately, their relationship seems to be unraveling due to poor communication and insecurities on both of their parts. Both of them will need to start being honest with each other and overcome their fears if they want to save their relationship.

My Thoughts
This review is difficult for me to write because I don't like giving books bad reviews and ratings. I really wanted to like You and Me, Forever... I seriously did... the book blurb made it sound exactly like the type of book I would normally buy and I was really excited to read it. Unfortunately, however, this book just fell flat for me and I found myself getting bored and skimming through some of it :(

I think my biggest issue is that I didn't connect with the characters at all and that prevented me from getting engaged in the storyline. The explanations provided for the source of Jake and Cathy's insecurities and fears as well as the reasoning behind their decisions just didn't make sense to me so I couldn't empathize or relate to either of them. It is for this reason, that I am only giving this story 2.5 Stars.

I would like to conclude this review by saying that different books work for different people and you may not experience the same problems I had with the characters. I can tell you that I was the only one out of my buddy read group that felt this way so it is totally possible you could end up loving this book, even though I didn't.

I've read several of Rae Spencer's books before, such as For Everything, Only You, Butterfly and Beyond a Proposition. Beyond a Proposition, was a story of a lead singer of the band "Ten and Five", but this book, You and Me, Forever is about the bassist in the band "Ten and Five", Jake and his long time girlfriend Cathy.

Throughout this book, even though Cathy and Jake have been together for over 10 years, they have many struggles. Cathy has been so supportive of Jake and his band's dreams of one day making it big. They struggle though their relationship when Cathy, who has been picked on in her past, is insulted and called "chubby" and "homely" by Beth, a woman who is determined to be with Jake, even though Jake has no interest in Beth whatsoever and he only has interest in her, he doesn't want anyone else. Cathy is so insecure about herself because of her past and so insecure that maybe someone better or prettier than her will come along and Jake will want to be with her. When she starts to pull away from Jake, he is completely dumbfounded, he has no idea why Cathy has been acting so strange after she has encounters with Beth, has no idea what sorts of nasty, insulting things Beth has been telling Cathy to try to mess with Cathy and Jake's relationship, because no matter how many times she has been told she doesn't have a chance with Jake (even by his band mates), she just doesn't believe it and continues to pursue it. Someone from Cathy's past, someone that made things difficult for her in high school so long ago, is also coming around and his presence and his comments are making Cathy's doubts even worse.

I could empathize with Cathy being hurt by comments that have made to her in the past (even though it was many years ago). When hurtful remarks are made, they stick with you and make you doubt things that you shouldn't, so I did understand to a point why Cathy was the way that she was and where her insecurities came from.

Why this is only a 4 star and not a 5 star review for me:

Although I could empathize with Cathy's insecurities over the hurtful remarks and how it affects a person even years later, I was disappointed that there wasn't a bit more communication between Cathy and Jake. Jake knew something was going on with Cathy, and although he didn't know what, he did try many times to get Cathy to express what she was feeling and she completely shut him out when she should have let him in and told him what she was feeling. They've been together for over 10 years, so I would think she should have felt comfortable talking to him about some insecurities when they came up instead of keeping them bottled up and having them just keep piling on.

I was also a bit disappointed that Jake made some hurtful remarks when he got really fed up with Cathy not opening up after trying to get her to talk. These hurtful remarks basically gave her the impression that he didn't care what was bothering her anymore. I understand how it would be frustrating and really maddening when a loved one is hurting in some way and they won't let you in, but I felt that his comments were out of line. I know he knew later that he never should have talked the way he did to her and deeply regretted it, but I was just really disappointed it happened in the first place.

What I really liked about this book:

Even though Jake's band was getting more and more popular, and more and more women wanted him, he only ever had eyes for Cathy. He never cheated and never was even tempted to do so. He loved her enough and knew his future was with Cathy and never wanted to think about a future without her, even when they were going through harder times.

I also loved how supportive Cathy was of Jake and his band's dream. His dream became hers. She wanted him to succeed. She never stopped loving him, even during the rough times and although I didn't agree with all her choices when it came to hers and Jake's relationship at times, she only even wanted him happy and wanted him to succeed, even when she was feeling down and didn't know if she fit into his future at times.

I loved that Jake never gave up on Cathy. Even after they went through some major hurdles in their relationship, he never once thought of giving up on her. She was his future and he was determined to make her see that too, regardless of what it cost him and regardless of what he had to do. He was determined to make her see past her insecurities once he found out what the problem was, and determined to make her see that they were meant to be together.

Overall, I really liked this book. I've read other books by Rae Spencer and she's a great writer. I would definitely recommend this book to people who want a good love story with a HEA.

A few of my favorite quotes from You and Me, Forever:

"Cathy never though she was pretty, I've often wished she could see herself through my eyes." ~Jake

~~~~~~~~
"I love Cathy," Jake said. "I always have, there's no other for me." ~Jake
~~~~~~~~

"My dreams are filled with you. Not fancy houses, not far away vacations....just you."
Jake pulled her tighter, curling her into his arms. "And my biggest dream is filled with you and a child."
"Or two." Cathy laughed.
"At least two," Jake said, squeezing her. "No matter what happens, Babe, you and me, forever."

In You & Me, Forever, Rae Spencer has penned another rock-n-roll story that incorporates her trademark insights into the music industry, this time taking us back to 1998 before Ten and Five had signed with a major recording label. While this tale is a bit tamer than some of her others (no stalker or crazy parents here), it shows the sacrifices and strife that local musicians go through to achieve their dreams of big time success. I really liked the relationship between Cathy and Jake and agonized along with them over their heartfelt tribulations; but even more than that, I enjoyed the relationships among the band members of Ten and Five and feel this story provides much more insight into the characters from Ms. Spencer's previous book, Beyond a Proposition. I love how she integrates true-to-life details of musicians' lives in her writing, and her authentic portrayals combined with abiding love and romance have made her an automatic buy for me. Thank you for sharing your stories, Rae, and keep the rock-n-roll romances coming!

Jake is in a band with Will, Zac and Dylan , called Ten and Five. They had dreams of making it big in the music industry. They worked hard playing whenever they could trying to achieve their goal of getting a recording contract and becoming a success.

One day, when the group was together eating at a restaurant, Cathy sensed someone staring at her. She looked around and recognized the person and old memories came back to her and they were not good memories. Seeing him brought back all her old doubts and fears. She had never gotten over what had happened to her in the past and it had left her with deep insecurities about herself.

Cathy and Jake have been together for 10 years. Cathy always supported Jake and lived the dream with him. Jake has never given Cathy any reason to be jealous or insecure about their relationship. Jake only has eyes for Cathy. To him, she is everything!

There has always been groupies hanging around, but when one in particular (Beth) sets her eyes on Jake, Cathy's insecurities and doubts really surface. Between Beth saying horrible things to Cathy and telling her that she is ugly and Jake will never stay with her and there are far too many pretty women who want him and that he must feel sorry for her and then her co-worker Samantha telling her things and questioning her relationship with Jake, it makes Cathy doubt herself and Jake's love for her even more.

Jake notices the change in Cathy and questions her, but she tells him that everything is fine, but he knows it isn't . No matter what Jake does, he cannot get Cathy to open up to him. Even Will, Jake's best friend and band mate and long time friend with Cathy, notices the change and tries to get Cathy to open up, with no success.

One day Cathy overhears Jake saying something to Will completes misinterprets what is said.
"Don't worry, Will, when the right woman comes along, you'll know it. It'll happen when you least expect it and she'll drive you insane."
"Insane." Will laughed.
"Yeah, insane. Cathy drives me insane every day." Jake laughed and clapped Will on the shoulder.

Cathy ends up leaving Jake and moving back in with her parents but she doesn't confide in them what is wrong, Jake calls her, but she won't accept his calls. Cathy's parents know that Jake loves Cathy completely and that he would never do anything to hurt her intentionally.

While Cathy is gone, Jake falls completely apart. He doesn't know why Cathy left him and she won't talk to him to explain why. He starts drinking heavily, doesn't sleep and takes his frustrations out on his band mates. During the time they are apart, Jake writes a song just for Cathy. It is his best work yet and the rest in the band know it. They have an upcoming showcase and rush to help get the music for the song that Jake wrote.

Cathy's father talks to her and tells her she should talk to Jake and give their relationship a chance. Cathy goes to the club and sees something that was totally innocent and she leaves. She thinks about it and realizes that she needs to talk to Jake, so turns around to go back to the club. One the way to see Jake at the club where they are supposed to be playing, Cathy ends up in a horrible accident where her life hangs on the line. Will she make it though?

Lets just say that throughout the book, you will see the struggles that groups go through to try and make it in the music industry, true friendship, romance, changes in people and attitudes, faith and love.

You will have to read the book to find out what happens. Will Cathy and Jake find their way back together? Will they survive the events that unfold that threaten to tear them apart forever? Will the band be able to survive and make a name for themselves? Will Jake risk everything to prove his love for Cathy? Will Cathy and Jake get their HEA?

Quotes I love from the book:

"You pale in comparison to Cathy. She is more beautiful than you could ever hope to be." Jake sneered, digging his fingers into her upper arms.
Beth flinched but leaned against him, her peppermint-laced breath wafting over his face.
"Oh baby, no one can compare to me."
"Only in your mind. You're a mean, spiteful tramp. Stay the hell away from Cathy. If I hear you have badmouthed her in any way, I'll find you, and I swear I'll forget for a moment you're female."

Deep within lies
A monster in disguise
A scream of rage
Break out of the cage
Seize my prize
The source of my sun
There's only one
It's a lust intoxication
A love saturation
My infatuation
A complete fascination
It's simple, simple
Insanity...
It's you, it's you
No other will ever do
Insanity in the morning
Insanity at night
There's no warning
It ignites
A simple need
At the sight
Take the lead
Taste my need
Simple...Simple...Insanity
You drive me insane every day
And I wouldn't want it any other way
Insanity (I'm on my knees)
Insanity
Insanity (begging you, please)
Insanity
You're my only Insanity...

"Did you ever wonder why that girl confronted you?" Rich asked.
Cathy shook her head.
"She came after you because she got nowhere with Jake because he wasn't interested," Rich said. "She's jealous of you and your relationship with Jake. As far as financial help, Jake doesn't need your financial help while he seeks his dream, he never did. And maybe they'll never get a recording contract, but at least they tried, at least you all tried.
"You're dreams are of family, your mother and I know this, we always have, and it doesn't make you less of a person to dream of picket fences and children instead of fancy careers. That's one of the things Jake always loved about you.
"You supported his dream because you love him. And he is the only man you have ever wanted to make your dreams come true."
Cathy stared at her dad, her lip caught between her teeth. "Living together was the only way Jake could keep you with him while he sought his dreams and not risk losing you. Don't you know that's Jake's biggest fear?"
"What is" Cathy asked, her breath shuddering across her bottom lip
"Losing you. You need to talk to him. You need to explain to him how you're feeling, what's bothering you. Don't throw away everything you two have.
He's trying. He calls two to three times a day even though he knows you won't take his calls. After all these years, after everything you two have been through, shared, doesn't Jake deserve that much, Cathy?
"Don't shut him out. He deserves to hear what's wrong from the one he loves."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I love Cathy," Jake said. "I always have, there's no other for me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~

"She wants you," Cathy said, lowering her eyes.
"I don't want her," Jake said, cupping Cathy's chin. "She does nothing for me, but you, on the other hand, turn me into a raving lunatic."
"A raving lunatic?" Cathy asked, her eyes shooting wide.
"Yes," Jake laughed.
"I don't understand," Cathy said, dropping her legs on the floor and standing.
"It means you drive me insane," Jake said.
Cathy froze, her eyes closing. She stuttered. "Insane."
"You flare my passions with a simple glance. I go out of my mind with worry when I don't know where you are Seeing you upset pisses me off and I want to fix it or beat the shit out of the person who caused it." Jake dropped his hands on her shoulders. "I hate the feeling in the morning when I wake up and you're not there."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I took your love for granted, and realize I made excuses for my fear of failure," Jake said.
"Because failing with you scares the hell out of me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~

"But the truth is, you are my dream, Jake. My dreams are filled with you. Not fancy houses, not far away vacations...just you."
Jake pulled her tighter, curling her into his arms. "And my biggest dream is filled with you and a child."
"Or two."Cathy laughed.
"At least two," Jake said, squeezing her. "No matter what happens, Babe, you and me, forever."
