Thanks partially to Howard and Linda of RV-dreams.com (okay, pretty much entirely), I’ve been sort of obsessed with the idea of this different lifestyle for a couple of years now. I’m a definitely a little young to totally quit working and probably too young to go this route yet, but this is starting to solidify into a true dream for me at some point. I’m not against working, but I’d love the ability to live in different areas of the country and explore the world while still giving back to it in some way.
This book basically provided a summary of everything I’ve learned from Howard’s blog about what considerations to take when thinking about traveling full time in an RV. Overall, this book is fairly outdated, but the general considerations are the same. What kind of RV? How do you deal with mail? What sort of insurance concerns should you think about? What sort of community do you want/can you find on the road? How can you make money to continue to finance the lifestyle?
Overall, I enjoyed the informational parts of the book. Barb and Ron used to run a subscription newsletter about their travels, and I found myself sort of skimming over those parts of the book. They like history, museums, cities, and people, and I’m more into nature, so I think most of their travels interested me a little less. However, still some good learning. Going to make Nick read the book so maybe he can learn something about our potential future. 🙂
I’ll go 8 out of 10 overall and 4 of 5 for readability. Again, personality-wise, I don’t think I’d get along too well with these two (although I’d sit down with Howard and pick his brain any day), and the info is fairly outdated, or I’d go with a higher rating.
