This book was not at all what I expected. What I expected was a romance full of conflicts and intrigue, as suggested by the book's description. What I got was a parable retelling.

I'm okay with reading renditions of parables, but this ended up being more of a bed time story than a romance.

That's not to say that the book wasn't creatively thought out or even well written. The story has huge merits from which stem from mentioned parables. The story is imaginative and has a few different twists to Christian symbolism.

This is more of a coming of age story that has the promise of a spicy romance, but doesn't quite make it that far. It remains innocent and centered around the MC as she struggles with fulfilling a prophecy of redeeming a corrupted heart and living forever in heaven.

This is a very quick and easy read. I was sucked into the story up to the point where it started to read like a children's bible story with mythological and fantastical elements. This was the point where the magic was really lost for me. The heavy Christian symbolism is okay if I knew that was what the story was going to be about. Again this boils down to not getting exactly what I expected.

Ultimately, I did enjoy this story. It's fresh and breaks from my normal avenue of reads I particularly enjoy.

I definitely recommend this to readers who love fantasy and faith based stories mixed with a touch of romance. Definitely should be classified as more NA or YA as there was nothing to suggest that it couldn't be otherwise.

Overall: What an adventure and more with this book. It grabbed me from the beginning with the Legend of the beast in the Deadwoods and the taking of the maidens. I did think that the book went by a little to fast and i didn't get enough time to get to know Elonakar. Also I didn't think our main characters had time to build a real "I love you" romance. The time they did spend together was kind of sweet and also a little scary because i just wanted Elonakar to show her more kindness. My favorite parts had to be, Arekel taming the animals and the changing of her dress. I loved the way the author described the changing of her dress, i just wished Elonakar would've stopped changing it back. lol Also the God portion through me for a loop because i wasn't expecting it, but i thought it was a nice touch and it really made the adventure more fun. I really enjoyed this book and i can't wait for the next book in the series.

This story was well written and had good fantasy elements. It's a departure from what I normally read. I like my stories a little racier, but I recommend this for a younger audience and/or for those who prefer a clean romance with a heavy dose of fantasy.

This book starts of telling how Arekel was away from her village in the mountains, saw the beast called Valkimpre, and started running from it. A man, that doesn’t appear to be good, saves her. The villagers say the beast has never lost one and will not stop until he has her. They kick our out of the village to keep the beast from coming in to take any woman in search for her. The man finds her and keeps her. He won’t let the beast kill her since she is the “chosen one.” I shall say no more though; I don’t want to give the whole story away!

I loved this book! I had no intention of reading it all in one sitting! As soon as I started reading it, I could not stop. I flipped page after page, and before I knew it, I was done! This book is very descriptive, well written, and I really enjoyed it! It reminds me of Beauty & The Beast when The Beast lets Bell out of the tower and tells her she can’t go into certain parts of the room and she must never leave because she is his now. I highly recommend this book to everyone looking for a sweet supernatural tale!
