About the author

K.M. Munshi is one of Gujarat's most well-known literary writers. His historical novels have contributed profoundly to the sense of past that Gujarat lives with. A multi-faceted personality, he was a prominent lawyer, freedom fighter and politician. He was also the founder of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Quite a new story for me about which I didn't have much knowledge. The book is based on Maharishi Vishwamitra and the original stories are taken from Rig Veda.
Munshi ji has given a very beautiful and detailed account of the background and the historical context of the story.
The book is divided into three parts where the first part is a novel and the next two are written as drama.
The issue wrt my low rating is that for some reason I failed to connect with the book. Also, I couldn't understand why the book is titled as Lopamudra, it would have been more apt to name it Vishwamitra. The central figure is Vishwamitra and not Lopamudra.
Still, it's a good story to know of and can certainly be read once.

लोपामुद्रा का विवाह अगस्त्य मुनि के साथ हुआ था।यह विश्वरथ के विश्वामित्र बनने की कहानी है। एक राजकुमार की महर्षि बनने की कहानी है ।सारे के सारे पात्र एक से बढ़ कर एक है। पात्र जाने पहचाने होने के कारण कहानी से जुड़ाव होने में समय नहीं लगता। उस काल के जीवन शैली, आदर्श और जीवन को समझना अच्छा लगता है। कहानी में रोचकता है इसलिए यह कही भी बोर नहीं करती है। पहली बार अनार्यों को आर्यों में सम्मिलित करने के क्रम में लोपामुद्रा की भूमिका के संदर्भ में यह उपन्यास लिखी गयी है। यह आर्यावर्त के लिए बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ था। कहानी पौराणिक होने के वावजूद बहुत ही आधुनिक है क्योंकि इसमें मनुष्यों की कमजोरियों को भी खुल कर उजागर किया गया है। चाहे मनुष्य कितना भी बड़ा तपस्वी महर्षि क्यों नहीं हो मनुष्यगत गुण दोष सबमें होते है। इन्हीं दोषों के कारण कई बार हम गलत निर्णय लेते है। यह उन किताबों में एक है जिससे आप अमृत छान कर निकाल सकते है।

Book's initial story is moving slow and iterates the theory of Aryan invasion. However, at that time, many Indians believed it and so is Munshi. Otherwise, the story is excellent and anyone familiar with Gujarati should read this.
