Even after several years, Ellie Rowland is still struggling to cope with the tragic death of her fiancée. In search of closure, she travels from her home in Florida to a small town in upstate New York. On the way, she encounters Dr. Brian Evans, but they do not get off to a good start. She learns, however, that Brian lives in the same town where she's heading; and, that he will soon need someone to fill a job she is qualified for. She rejects his offer. But she settles in to a brutal New York Winter. Hence the missing sunlight and short, dark days cause a crippling case of cabin fever. So she searches for a job, answers Brian’s ad, and accepts his offer. Soon she learns that Brian had lost his wife. But despite his loss, and an unresolved family crisis, Brian wants to find love again right in his small town. Unexpectedly, sparks fly between them, but Ellie struggles to let go of the past. Does Brian have any chance of persuading her that life continues, or will she remain a difficult woman to deal with?
This story was a long and agonizing. My heart broke for Elle and I understood her need to escape her past ,while on a journey to healing. Her Meeting Brian on the train was humorous and I smiled thinking this will be her happily ever after. 🤨 As the story progressed I discovered Brian was going through his own journey of heart break and healing. Both of these people were dealing with grief in their on way. This story tugged at my heart and emotions so strongly and after awhile I found my self struggling along with Brian as he battled with trying to understand Elle struggle with grief while trying to let her know that he needed her in his life.
The writer is very detailed and the the story was interesting I just struggled trying to get to the end which for me was bitter sweet.
I truly enjoy this book. Grief is a tricky thing however you captured two souls that handle the best way they knew how. Brian healing process was more clear than Elie's process was long and confusing to others. Like I said grief is tricky. I would have liked a epilogue just to see what their relationship look like in two or three years.
This was beautiful story on the two people grieving and trying to find healing when sometimes healing can be found in people. I would preferred an epilogue to this book.
